Scout vehicles for emergency response vehicle applications

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Hi all. I am a medical director for a small rural Emergency medical service (EMS) agency in Wisconsin. To be able to respond with the fire department, and our ambulance it would be great to have a new squad vehicle. As such, having a vehicle that is rugged and able to withstand harsh and slippery conditions is needed. I'd like to suggest options be added to the Terra and the Traveler to transform them into response vehicles for those who might need some offroad capabilities.

In general EMS vehicles need to have an emergency light bar, grill and bumper lights with controls that are integrated with siren controls. They shouldn't be hard to navigate to on a touch screen, ideally always having their own switches that can be operated easily without looking and with a gloved hand since it's often very cold. They also need to have somewhere to mount a radio potentially inside the vehicle.

For the rural applications, these vehicles need to have ways to get unstuck or unstick other vehicles so having the integrated tow hooks on the front and back are great. I hear that's coming. Options for winches on the front, and perhaps in the bed would also be great for this application.

Would Scout be willing to do this work? I think it would be the perfect vehicle for general squad vehicles. Great offroad, low maintenance and less fuel waste when sitting idle at a scene and amazing looks.

Does anyone else have thoughts about use of the Terra or Traveler for emergency applications?

Welcome to the forum. Good topic. We touched on ideas like this way back when but hasn’t been discussed for awhile. Glad you brought it up. If you want to dig around, the search button is a great tool. 2-1/2 years ago there were only a few threads compared to now but the general design threads would be a good start as a search. We’ve talked medical/emergency vehicles, forestry and parks, lifeguarding vehicles, and other various community service vehicles

Hmm I searched there and found nothing when I searched "EMS", "Emergency" or "paramedic". So has it been discussed about lights, sirens and where and how those could be integrated?

I know Ford has a Ford Pro division that does all the vehicle modifications for Police and Fire. It seems Scout could do this at some point. It would be a great applications for the Scout Traveler and Terra.

Probably not to that depth. Early on in the forum we lumped every thought under design so hard to say. Was hoping you’d be able to track some down but nevertheless I’m glad you started it back up again

Are emergency light bars, bumper lights, and sirens typically added by the automotive vendor, or are after-market companies adding these things to vehicles? I know I have seen those type of add-ons at a truck supply store, so I always assumed it was after-market.

Since Scouts are designed for off-roading, they would already have the mount points for most of what you describe. For example, in the forums the Scout reps have mentioned that there will be extra switches that users can set up for their own add-on modifications. They were mentioned in terms of off-roading lights and wenches, but I am sure they could be used to control your emergency options. The prototypes also have a bar on top of the dashboard with USB power, specifically for adding equipment (like radios).

I'm looking forward to the options - it will be fun to customize.
I'll never be able to get the wench though - unless of course I want a divorce along with her...

(sorry. - I couldn't resist)
