Scout Sales Strategy: Territory Ambassadors

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

I’m excited about Scout Motors resurrecting an iconic American brand.
Has Scout considered hiring “Territory Ambassadors” in key areas, whose job would be to promote the Scout SUV/Truck by driving the vehicle(s) in high traffic areas and parking the vehicle in high visibility locations, as an added marketing and advertising strategy to show consumers how great the vehicles look like up close.
QR codes could be placed on the sides and rear of the vehicles along with Scout Motors’ website and phone number to generate leads and sales.
I’ll submit my application for the San Antonio/Austin, TX area if Scout decides to beta test this strategy.

I think as creative as SM has been with social media it will only get better as sales time gets closer. While I’d love to be an ambassador for SM I worry driving a vehicle around covered it stickers/graphics might hurt the image. I’m imagining giant QR codes wrapped around that start looking like prototype black and white disguise wrap

I was an early adopter with the R1T. Believe me - no stickers are needed - you just had to drive it and it would turn heads. The SCOUT will be the same...

Parking in the R1T was non-stop conversations at first, since lots of people didn't even know what Rivian was. Lots of people were shocked by how nice it looked in person and lots of people were flabbergasted that it was Made in the U.S.A. Mostly, I just fielded a lot of questions about range and charging, but then people started to get deliveries the next year. in my small town, I probably converted 10 leads into sales - either talking to people about my experience or letting them sit inside, etc... Some of them had pre-orders and were Tesla owners, some made pre-orders after speaking with me. I did all of this before Rivian even had a referral program in place (which I guess gets you free charging). in one case, I drove my truck to someone's house to see how it would fit in the garage and how easy it was to fold the mirrors, etc. Another one of the "leads" I know (that converted her reservation to an R1S) was recently told at the service center that our little town has one of the most dense ownership bases in the country now. Still glad I'm not a car salesman tho.

Honestly I think we just need to take our Scouts to local events and Cars and Coffee events. No QR codes needed. The Scout will speak for itself and it will definitely be a conversation starter.

Interesting idea, but perhaps more as a generic affiliate/referral program.

Here's how it might work.

When you buy a Scout, you download their app (the same app that controls your car) which has a built-in "referral" capability, which you can activate. Then, when you talk to someone who seems interested, you can show them the QR code on the app's "referral page". They scan it to get some "free with purchase" offer on a new Scout. When they purchase a Scout, you get some "thank you $" deposited to your bank account.

The $ payouts involved, though low considering the price of a new Scout, could be a real perk for individuals.

There are a lot of variations on this basic theme. For example, don't want to complicate your tax with a smattering of small payments? Assign your $ payout to the buyer instead, so they get a discount in addition to the the freebie. Or have Scout accumulate it into one yearly payment. Want to get a slightly larger payout? Have the interested party first download the Scout app, then use the app-2-app referral process. SM benefits because you've gotten a potential buyer that much more plugged into the Scout ecosystem.

Things get messy with $$$. So, Rivian offered RAN charger credits (FREE DCFC CHARGING) - found that out late!

So you’re saying I should wait to get my company to buy 15 fleet trucks until after I get my Scout :D
I agree with @R1TVT and have said before I don’t like $$$ incentives. Maybe a freebie in the mail occasionally but money turns into some people turning shady-IMHO!

True. Once $$ is involved everyone is trying to figure out how to scam the system, turn it into a career or launder money. On the other hand, how many free Scout hats do you need? DCFC credits sounds good. I wonder if there's anything else that is actually useful but isn't actually cash... Perhaps a more generalized "Scout cash", which can be used only for DCFC, parts, upgrades, swag, etc. All the things that SM will be selling.

I had a very similar experience with my Ioniq 5. I was an early pre-order (number 78 in Canada!) so I got my vehicle months before most other people did. I couldn't go anywhere without random strangers stopping me in parking lots and asking what kind of car was it, and how did I buy it, plus all the usual EV questions once they realised it was electric. In fact that STILL happens from time to time. A couple weeks ago someone flagged me down in a parking lot just to ask me about my car. I expect the Scouts will be very similar in that sense.

I personally know at least five people (but there are certainly many more) that now have Ioniq 5s directly because of me. i'm part of a local EV group and we hold regular EV test drive events. My car is always booked solid and I've had random strangers email me months later thanking me for the test drive and letting me know they bought an Ioniq 5 because of me. Unfortunately Hyundai doesn't have a referral program that I'm aware of so I just take satisfaction in the knowledge that I've converted at least a few people away from combustion cars and into EVs. I've also driven to people's houses to see if my car fits their garage! haha

Scout would be wise to cultivate some early adopters.

So now your secret is out, not really "Cranky." Nice job being a EVangelist. :)

lol. He’s cranky he has to drive to people’s houses for garage ratings lol. Where a simple tape measure could be used lol.

I made a friend come to my house with the ford bronco four door and we mocked up cardboard to the exact dimensions at the moment for a Scout traveler to see if my driveway is wide enough, turns out it will fit.

Now where’s all my cardboard?

I’m not one to continually ask for “freebies” but honestly I’d appreciate it more if when we order our Scouts, SM just cuts us break knowing we’ve spent these years educating new members, talking in social circles (I’ve already pulled in one reservation, have a handful of people paying attention and my company considering going full fleet as construction vehicles.). Nothing is a guarantee but showing appreciation for our current support would certainly encourage me to talk even more to people after I have a physical example to show off. In the 1-1/2 years (barely) that we had the Bronco I talked to numerous folks about it and raved prior to having issues. Did others buy????? I’ll never know but I’ve been here this long and I’m committed to the long haul for Scouts. I talk to lots of people now because I’m a believer and that always makes it easier.
