Re-think Headlight Design

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

I'm not a huge fan of the 4 array headlight design, looks too similar to the ones Porsche uses. Also kinda looks like a merge of the Porsche and Bronco lights. IMO, its not actually that distinctive/iconic.

I do really like how the DRL blends into the side/parking light and the light bar that wraps around the front/rear grille. Very distinctive.

More than that, I'm concerned about how they are inset and there is a "ledge" in front of each light. This is going to accumulate snow and cover the light. LEDs don't generate much heat so its going to melt off. This being an adventure vehicle, a lot folks who live in and travel to places where it snows are not going to be happy about this.

I'd recommend making the headlights flush so there is no ledge, having a heating element or maybe a washer (though this will be least effective).

    Update:
Case study - Cybertruck with this issue. Scout, hope you’ve got a plan to accout for this: https://www.autoevolution.com/news/...cumulate-and-block-the-headlights-230818.html

Little too much jeep minus 1 grill between the headlight cluster but the headlight surround is exactly what I imagined with the other renders
Agree with this. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but yes it’s Jeepy. Outer bezels are great! How many different grilles were available on the Scout IIs over the years? I’m sure one of the original Scout gurus on here knows. I was a bunch anyway.

I could see something like the horizontal slot grills being a good version to lean on for inspiration. Especially since the headlights are all horizontal. The grill could give the appearance of holes and depth with texture and color. I don’t think I would want anything thing other than what it’s supposed to come with from the factory. I say this because I want the best aerodynamic version I can get. However I completely understand the desire to modify, personalize and accessorize. Even though it’s not my thing, how many aftermarket grills are available for wranglers?

Oddly this was the example I used for the prompt

odd. With that grill -had AI cooperated your rendering g would have been a home run

Okay I used Gemini on a couple of the pictures my husband took at Nats and when we saw the Traveler in Chicago. I do agree that round would make the Scout lean Bronco and I think the grill would need to be different. I don’t think the round lights suit the grill but that just me.

Cyure I love this for two reasons. Seeing it with round headlights makes me like the rectangular headlights even more!

However, what I really want them to have is amber DRL's because not only is it much more "truck like", but if you look at vehicles driving on the highway nowadays they almost all have white DRL's, but if you see a newer Kia or lower trim F-150 that has orange DRL's they stick out much more and are easily visible from a greater distances. Win-Win

Same, I’ve had round on my Wrangler for 13 years. I’m ready for a change!

Same, 16 years of round lights on my Toyota. I thought I wanted round lights on the Scout until I started playing with the grill more. I was surprised to find how well the grill/lights worked for me on the current design with such minor tweaks. I'm handy enough to modify the grill myself if Scout doesn't offer something with a little brightwork.

I will challenge that having seen them up close and personal and it is for one reason only. That DRL, presuming it is the larger side ones and nothing gets added, will look like it bends through the corner of the car/front and carries across the headlight cluster. If suddenly the front strip is white and side “drl” is amber the whole effect is ruined. I’m hoping the DRL stays headlight color and the turn signal bulb is amber colored. It’s the same as the rear. It’s a beautiful detail that truly can’t be fully appreciated until you see it up close and personal

I think this could become another one of those highly debated preferences, (like the round vs rectangle headlight) but I remember seeing somewhere the wrap around "pass through lighting" (although beautiful I agree) didn't make the final cut because COM was too high.

However I recall seeing the photo below of a Terra at night and I think the lighting was just too much white light for my liking and could really use some amber to break it up. Regardless though, there will be some sort of amber lightning on the side of the vehicle up front because of regulations. Again, I'm sure we all could debate it endlessly, but too each their own.

Honestly it’s different in every picture. I don’t have any idea what it’s really going to be in production.
