Re-think Headlight Design

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

    Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time.     I'm not a huge fan of the 4 array headlight design, looks too similar to the ones Porsche uses. Also kinda looks like a merge of the Porsche and Bronco lights. IMO, its not actually that distinctive/iconic.

    I do really like how the DRL blends into the side/parking light and the light bar that wraps around the front/rear grille. Very distinctive.

    More than that, I'm concerned about how they are inset and there is a "ledge" in front of each light. This is going to accumulate snow and cover the light. LEDs don't generate much heat so its going to melt off. This being an adventure vehicle, a lot folks who live in and travel to places where it snows are not going to be happy about this.

    I'd recommend making the headlights flush so there is no ledge, having a heating element or maybe a washer (though this will be least effective).

    Also i don’t know what your winter was like, but this winter was actually more eventful by me than years prior. And us beach people never see snow since the ocean keeps the air temp slightly warmer and it kills off the storms 85% of the time.

Like hot spots every 3/4”. It’s not tolerable but for high quality string of LED’s the finished look is perceived as cheap LED’s. Just my opinion

    I feel the same about the postage stamp fringe. Not a huge fan, but something I'd like to see in person.

    Funny enough it’s grown on me a bit since I first commented. I think if it was a smooth line of lights it would need to be super thin. Otherwise I worry it would look like a Dodge Durango. I think it could be cool as a subdued halo effect but I like the break up. Maybe instead of postage stamp if it was longer spacing like a gear edge this might work-or might not. I guess I’ve just grown to accept it so it feels less bothersome to me now

    I had to take a double take on the date of your post. I've been MIA in here for quite a while. Ha guess I have a lot of catching up to do.

    Agree. Heated housing? washers? Wipers? I just realized today I have headlight housing washers on my Q5 PHEV. It's really my Wife's car but we were out today and I have to have my wife use the washers/wipers while I see them clean the headlight housing. I presume its automatic with using wipers/washers?

    Absolutely! Please. How about the base model scout with round headlights to honor the history of this great vehicle the slit look is just like every other vehicle being produced this time around to trendy.

    Okay I used Gemini on a couple of the pictures my husband took at Nats and when we saw the Traveler in Chicago. I do agree that round would make the Scout lean Bronco and I think the grill would need to be different. I don’t think the round lights suit the grill but that just me.

    Initially I was team round headlights but the current design has really grown on me. To some degree, the current design reminds me of the classic IH logo. The round headlights in the AI image looks Landcruiser'ish. The current design set's it apart from what's out there, while I don't love the Rivian design, you know it's a Rivian.

    I see the bronco problem, but I actually kinda like it…

    But I also like the Scout as designed.

    Funny. I found some early sketches I did back in the very beginning of the forum before we knew anything and I was so gung-ho on round lights. Really glad they went the way they did

    I couldn't tell you how many times people asked me if I still had my "Bronco"... It felt insulting. I have nothing against Bronco, but confusing the Scout with the Bronco is something I hope doesn't come back. I think Ford did a great job with the appearance on the new Bronco but let the Bronco be a Bronco and let Scout have its own identity.

    Agree 100%. Bronco proportion and retro remix are what sold me. Sucks the quality on our Bronco sucked. Here’s hoping to a bullet-proof Scout Traveler
