Re-think Headlight Design

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

I'm not a huge fan of the 4 array headlight design, looks too similar to the ones Porsche uses. Also kinda looks like a merge of the Porsche and Bronco lights. IMO, its not actually that distinctive/iconic.

I do really like how the DRL blends into the side/parking light and the light bar that wraps around the front/rear grille. Very distinctive.

More than that, I'm concerned about how they are inset and there is a "ledge" in front of each light. This is going to accumulate snow and cover the light. LEDs don't generate much heat so its going to melt off. This being an adventure vehicle, a lot folks who live in and travel to places where it snows are not going to be happy about this.

I'd recommend making the headlights flush so there is no ledge, having a heating element or maybe a washer (though this will be least effective).

    Update:
Case study - Cybertruck with this issue. Scout, hope you’ve got a plan to accout for this: https://www.autoevolution.com/news/...cumulate-and-block-the-headlights-230818.html

I think this could become another one of those highly debated preferences, (like the round vs rectangle headlight) but I remember seeing somewhere the wrap around "pass through lighting" (although beautiful I agree) didn't make the final cut because COM was too high.

However I recall seeing the photo below of a Terra at night and I think the lighting was just too much white light for my liking and could really use some amber to break it up. Regardless though, there will be some sort of amber lightning on the side of the vehicle up front because of regulations. Again, I'm sure we all could debate it endlessly, but too each their own.

That was very bright. The wrap through light didn’t get killed per se-the look will still appear to wrap through but it will be two separate pieces rather than one continuous like the prototypes. So the look will still happen but it will be much easier to assemble and cost less. Always fair to debate and disagree here as we have varying opinions between us all. I will say that for me, that is one of the strongest design cues on front and rear and it creates the equator line they’ve talked about so to me if they split the colors it will really hurt the beauty of the design.

At this point I have my full trust in SM that the will produce an absolute stunner that will make all us happy in one way or another. Although I will say the wrap through light was gorgeous and I cant wait to see the final product.

I agree, with those lights appearing continuous, they need to be the same color, front and side. With the USDOT requiring amber side lights for passenger vehicles, that might dictate the DRL color up front as well.

Maybe they slap a combo amber reflector and side light on the wheel well edge. I just saw that on the new mini coopers and it looks good. And when turn signal is on, no different than front lights, the LED DRL turns amber with the bulb color below the lense cover so it’s more noticeable. Maybe wheel well one also blinks for added visibility
