Purpose built mountain bike racks

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

It would be such a huge demonstration of Scout’s commitment to the outdoor enthusiast to have a purpose built mountain bike rack design built into the bed of the Scout. Like a tailgate that has a built in feature that performs a similar function as a MTB tailgate pad.

Or even a Scout mountain bike! BMW did it for a few years...

Sorry, as an avid mountain biker, I almost have to laugh.

Technically yes, there have been many automotive brands that have made mountain bikes over the years.

But almost all of them have been "cash grabs", where the bikes themselves were... "not good". And instead, were usually open mold frames (generic rebadges), with normal parts slapped on, and sold at a premium price point.

So, most modern trucks aren't great with tailgate pads, because the top of the tailgate is now super flat, and super wide on top. I'm not sure that you could make "indents" for the bikes, with built in straps either though, as bikes downtubes vary wildly in width (steel bikes up to super wide carbon ebikes). Plus not all downtubes are "round". Plus, you'd have to have some sort of padding built in anyway, and not sure how that would work.

I wonder if just having a narrow tailgate top would be good enough.

Alternatively, for shuttling days, it could be interesting if there was a hitch receiver INSIDE the Terras bed. So then you could throw on another rack inside the bed. That way you could use something like a velocirax on the rear, and still get more bikes in the bed in a more secured manner.

That stuff already exists - some that would fit the Scout tailgate already, like a Cache or Yakima for example.

I'm sure the Scout accessory store will be loaded with 3rd party / co-branded stuff like this eventually.

Here's a Rivian example - Yakima pad with Rivian's Logo: https://gearshop.rivian.com/products/rivian-tailgate-pad

Yeah, this could happen. 1up makes their racks in the USA, and could collaborate. But personally I don't see much value in "rebranding" something existing, and slapping on a higher price.

Ditto, yep.

The purpose would be just for Scout to sell something that would (potentially) be better integrated to the vehicle - yes for Scout to make a few bucks and make accessory sales easy.

I had a 1-Up before I got my Rivian and still run it to this day for both MTB's and Fat Bikes.

I'm with you there!

Pivot is a brand thats got a great reputation, that I've never really gotten into. I usually build from frames, and my nice wheelset is boost, not superboost, so its just sort of never been on my radar. But I hear great things about DWlink and the Trail329.

I'm more into the burlier bikes for the trails around here (most bikes in the area are ~140-170mm travel bikes). My previous was a Banshee Titan. But then I had a chance to try out a Kavenz, so I jumped on it. It feels very similar, but because its high pivot, its got a lot less pedal feedback. Plus its more adjustable.

And confuses people on trails as they all look at it and say "wahhhht is that?" :P.

I'd love better integration, I'm just not sure how that would actually look. You could potentially integrate the rack into the bumper (the 1up trays), but even if you did that, the bike would be too close to the back of the vehicle, and with mountain bike handlebars being this wide, I'd imagine you'd run into interference problems.

I was thinking more along the lines of the Yakima pad and Rivian... Not dissimilar from what Volvo did with their Ski box (just slapped a logo on the box to match the logo on the volvo) and probably charge a lot more for it!

Def not needed but some people love to buy matching accessories for the truck at the time of purchase and Scout could stand to make a few bucks and drive more accessory revenue with a select group of aftermarket partners...
