PLEASE DO NOT DO AN EXCLUSIVE DEAL WITH STARLINK - NO MUSK

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Why would you care if it is Starlink or Kuiper (no others even close to being viable for years and years). The important aspect would be when your out of range of a cell tower you have connectivity. If you stuck or in need of help in the middle of the forest or desert, do you ask your rescuer, what is your political affiliation? No, you’re grateful for the help.

Scout should get the best possible service at the best price. If it cost more than ~$10/month, adoption will be very low.

It all depends on what satellite communications service can cover the most and work the fastest. So what if it’s Starlink. T Mobile is also starlink, since they are the provider to T Mobile. Personally I think starlink is the most reliable service for Scout.

And plus at the moment he’s no one’s friend. Starting a third party, which has never worked in the US. From Day one of the country’s founding, it was made to be a two party government. NOT THREE!

If starlink was built-in standard I might subscribe. Plenty of others may avoid the vehicle brand for the association.
Plenty of vandalism stories related to Tesla vehicles. I am Ok with wifi only.

Kuiper might be ready by the time Scout is available, and last I checked their antennas were slightly smaller and better suited (in theory) for this purpose.

Ideally you could change providers and swap out the antenna for another constellation. This might mean paying for the service directly to Kuiper / Starlink, which is a fabulous way to disentangle and avoid paying for a ‘car subscription’ - something which I find somewhat noxious.

I am sure this is not political hate. Yep, absolutely sure.

Please try your best to make this a 50 states vehicle. Every political concession to one side will just annoy and possibly loose potential clients from the other. At most, make political concessions avoidable options. Kind of like putting in vegan leather-what percentage of customers would actually want that over real leather? Personally I like bamboo, but is it a better material, or just something to make a small percentage of customers feel good. I think EV's are a better choice, and recognize it IS what will make this product different - but you are already starting down a road there as well. At least the Harvester provides an option.

I agree but had to chuckle. Even Bamboo isn’t that ideal. Being in construction and design when Bamboo flooring hit the market everyone raved it was better environmentally-until people researched it and found out what it takes to convert bamboo into flooring and/or cabinets. Lots of chemicals. But again-no different than an EV, it’s the long term benefits. And I agree with Leather-even if @Jamie@ScoutMotors still tries to sell me on Vegan or recycled products 🤣

I had a BMW years ago with their vegan leather. When we traded it in at the Honda dealer they had it listed as real leather on the trade in paperwork. They couldn’t tell the difference. As long as it’s pretty and durable, that’s all I care about.

I think we all have lines we won’t cross and can respect those lines of others without trying to minimize them as just “political”. And regardless of your opinion of the guy in charge of starlink, I think we can all understand why someone would not want their hard earned dollars to go towards enriching him. All the OP is asking for is an option, which I think is something we all tend to like in this forum. In addition I think it’s always a good idea to have options when third parties are involved. For me, it would make having a satellite antenna much more attractive if I knew it wasn’t limited to a single vendor.

I agree. I won’t take advantage of satellite and mine is not a political reaction. I’d just rather see a good company grow than supporting the wealthiest man in the world while he spends his money manipulating governments. That’s a person I don’t trust and certainly don’t want him getting my money if their are other alternatives

I will reiterate, under no circumstances should Scout tarnish its brand via any association with Elon Musk’s companies including StarLink! At minimum allow for a range of service providers for satellite connectivity.
Actually, I agree. He’s got enough money. The option to use another satellite provider would be appreciated. My personal opinions/ethics definitely guide my purchasing (as is practical) and that’s dealbreaker territory.

I liked that Scout seems like an apolitical bridge-builder, but blech. Any association with Starlink is a hard pass.
