If you do a little searching you will find this to be a common sentiment. Myself included.love the back open/close hatching but would love option to detach rear tire for everyday use.
Welcome to the community! Im the opposite. Im team tire carrier all the way. I’m hoping they offer both ways since people have very strong feelings either way.love the back open/close hatching but would love option to detach rear tire for everyday use.
You’re in luck.love the back open/close hatching but would love option to detach rear tire for everyday use.
I love your optimism. You’re in luck.
Welcome to the forum. There’s been lots of discussions on this so if you haven’t been following along on the sidelines just use the search feature and tire carrier and see the various feedback. There will be a base option for tire under the vehicle and no spare carrier. The other thing to keep an n mind is the Scouts will have frunks so unless you have larger storage daily needs the frunk should handle a large amount of daily storage. Just a different way to approach things. Enjoy the forumlove the back open/close hatching but would love option to detach rear tire for everyday use.
Me too, tire carrier all day. Love it. Seems like there definitely needs to be an option for both sides. I would be devastated if that rear-mounted spare tire didn’t make it to production.Welcome to the community! Im the opposite. Im team tire carrier all the way. Same. I would be devastated. My son kept saying it’s an EV it won’t have a tire carrier and as soon as I saw it I was sold.Me too, tire carrier all day. Love it. Keep in mind a lot of us also like to do 5 tire rotations.![]()
You’re not saying the carrier is an option and you as owner will be able to take it on and off? This has not been stated. Only that there is an option to have a carrier or not. Until SM announces the carrier is an on-off option I wouldn’t count on that. I suspect it is either a hard fix or nothing. But I’m guessing OEM aftermarket may eventually add another carrier option that could be more easily removable. Only time will tellYeah, afaik, this was already a "known thing".
That the spare tire carrier for the Traveller is supposed to be removeable at the very least.
This is important to me, because in the parking space that I have available in my garage, the traveller will fit with the spare tire carrier removed, but not with it on (as it adds something like 18in of overall length).
And I agree, it needs to still be at the very least an option (actual offroad vehicles need actual spares). But there are also lengthy posts (of mine :O), detailing that I think we need 2-3 spare tire location options for the Traveller. Because sometimes outside is better, but also, sometimes inside/under is better.
I bookmarked what Jamie said about the tire carrier not too long ago for this very reason. This is the info we have at the moment. You’re not saying the carrier is an option and you as owner will be able to take it on and off? This has not been stated. That is correct. However, Jamie chimed in on this saying without carrier a panel is just snapped in its place. So if the carrier is user removable you maybe just purchase the "panel" and you have the best of both worlds. however you would of course still see the hinge.
I love the way it looks. I just do not want or need it. Tire options for all!Me too, tire carrier all day. Love it. Seems like there definitely needs to be an option for both sides. I would be devastated if that rear-mounted spare tire didn’t make it to production.

Yes! Tire options for all!! I don’t need it I supposed but I definitely want itI love the way it looks. I just do not want or need it. Tire options for all!
I love the way it looks as well. I want it, don't need it. I am really hoping they can come up with a way to make it removable without it looking like something is missing and a clever way to fill the void the carrier leaves behind in the gate area. I can live with the hinge staying uncovered.I love the way it looks. I just do not want or need it. Tire options for all!
Okay I have a question. I’m not planning on taking mine off.I love the way it looks as well. I want it, don't need it. AAAOkay I have a question. I’m not planning on taking mine off.
For those that do want it to be removable what’s your plan. Run without a spare? Have a place for it inside your traveler? Have a place for it under your Traveler? What’s your plan?
For the last 4 years I have been traveling without a spare. But, in it's place a compact air compressor with a replaceable fix a flat canister in it. Works great as a air compressor then when needed flip the switch to flat and it dumps the canister and then fills the tire with air. I have never needed it. If the tire is beyond that it is AAA.Okay I have a question. I’m not planning on taking mine off.
