What features made my place a reservation? The harvester - the physical knobs - the NACS (and Tesla’s network that comes with it) - and the overall look.

Cybertruck is very angular, Rivian is very “bubbly” - and I wouldn’t be caught dead in a Ford or Chevy EV ……… Terra looks like a truck!
 
Off-road body on frame EREV with locking differentials. Comparable ICE vehicles get 15 MPG which I have a hard time justifying in a multi-use vehicle.

The Harvester generator EREV models are projected to have a claimed 500 miles of range.

The EREV is going to have 150 projected miles of range on the battery.

Deduct the 150 battery miles from the 500 total miles and that leaves 350 miles of range with the Harvester generator.

The fuel tank is approximately 15 gallons.

350 miles divided by 15 gallons equal 23.3mpg

What comparable vehicles are you using?

Not OP, but my Bronco gets about 16mpg.

I don’t drive enough (wfh) to require good fuel economy, but I’d love to just plug in at home for my usual driving, but take the same vehicle to the mountains and not worry about finding a charger at the trailhead.

Plus, 1000 ft-lbs of electric torque and silent operation in the woods sounds heavenly.

Bronco, Jeep, Tacoma all get poor gas mileage when outfitted with 33" or larger offroad tires. The Scout EREV profile of 90% EV usage and 10% generator is a good match for my all-purpose SUV use case (90% local and 10% long-distance or offroad).

All this talk of features we want and don’t want, etc got me thinking today. We have had so many new members lately, I’m just wondering what was the one feature you saw that made you pull the trigger and fill out that reservation form?

For me it was the tire carrier. I love the way vehicles look with a tire carrier on the back and there just aren’t that many. I remember talking to my son in the days prior to the reveal and he just kept saying it’s not aerodynamic it’s not going to happen. As soon as I saw that tire carrier I went to my computer and filled out my reservation form.

EV with a good mix of screens, tech, knobs and dials. Flexibility & Fun of EV + offroad. I had a PHEV and liked the concept, and got great mileage for gasoline as I charged at home. 1,000 miles to a tank was common. I could see that as a good mix of city driving (mostly EV) and mountain trails (gas + some EV). The brand. I also saw one live in Boise, ID. Was surprised to see it and was impressed by the styling.

I had pre-ordered all the EV pickups before and canceled when they come out twice as costly as the announced prices. I had given up hope and delayed on the Scout for a while. But I love that they give me physical controls, and are building body on frame. No EV is gonna feel exactly the same as a ICE truck, but I’m excited to drive this! Assuming they don’t cost twice as much as a comparably equipped ICE truck. Ripped mechanically, I mean. I don’t pay more for software features.

We really hope it’s accessible for everyone.

If you adjust the original price of a 1968 Scout Travelall 1000C had an original MSRP of $3,169, it would cost around $29,348 in today’s money with inflation.

Hopefully once they get enough volume going they will be able to give us models that more people can afford.

Everyone is worried about the cost. As we have all seen other manufacturers say something at reveal and drastically change the price at launch. I would think SM has seen that as well and has seen how that affects take rate.

I recently went to the SM presentation at Nationals in June. Someone in the audience brought up price as a concern. The SM employee who answered was consistent with what they have been saying all along and stated they are going to be $20,000 less than their competitors.

I have a motto I keep saying to myself over and over, faith and patience. They haven’t let me down yet so I continue to have faith and unfortunately we just have to keep being patient.
