Everyone has to do what they are comfortable with. I’m jumping in both feet and ordering just as soon as I can based on what my desired Scout build looks like and I have never leased a car and I’m not planning on starting now. I’m choosing faith.

Personally, I don't even consider VW's reliability history with Scout Motors since it is being built from the ground up. The only car that has ever left me stranded on the side of the road was almost 50 years ago when I was driving a VW bug from Atlanta on I-85 with a big hole in the side of the engine with a rod sticking out. I swore at that time I would never own another VW and such has been the case. Similar experiences with Ford and now their on my blacklist. Some of these decisions are likely unreasonable or illogical but I feel that each person has their own reasons and experiences that drive their brand preferences.

Now, just because VW has put a huge investment in Scout Motors doesn't make it a VW. If Scout puts a VW badge on the Scout, that would likely have me cancel my reservations. I know, I know... that sounds a bit extreme. That's just me! Anyone else feel the same?

I agree with your first paragraph, not the second, but I never had an experience like that with a VW like you did. I had an Audi Wagon back in the early 2000s. Never had any issues. At this point the only thing that could keep me from purchasing is if the cost dramatically increased (which they have stated over and over starting at under $60) or if the production model didn’t look like the concept (which again, they have stated that won’t happen). I’m planning on a Scout being in my garage in 2028.

I've had a handful of VWAG products and have been satisfied with them - so you're right, it's all in the our personal experiences... I've also driven a lot of Ford vehicles with very few issues... Maybe I'm just lucky - I tend to go overboard with vehicle maintenance (used to love doing it my self), these days I do less and less myself and rely more on the dealerships. And that's another reason I'm so excited about Scout - Service Centers - *not* dealerships!

I have to agree. To be honest we leased our RZ as it’s our first EV and the Lexus dealer said deal was just as good and changes were coming so we’d be better off. As my wife is in banking and finance she’s very against leasing but this was our test vehicle prior to the Scout and it saved us money vs what we were driving so we justified it. She just said again yesterday how much she loves it and may decide to buy it out but she still misses having the SUV higher seating and storage flexibility. She’ll likely go into the Lexus small SUV in full EV if available or the plug in hybrid. (Got off track) I just figure I’ve wanted another Scout for over 35 years so if I’m jumping in, it’s either all 6 legs first

100%. We picked up a used beetle convertible a month ago so now I can say we’ve owned a VW. But I’ve lemon-lawed a Chrysler product and in personal decision making vowed to never even consider Stellantis since they are now parent ownership and seem even worse. We had a Chevy that had 5 recalls in one year back in our early relationship days so now Chevy is also off my list. My strange logic is both those vehicles were starter level for the company and if my first experience sucked, why would I buy another and probably spend more? But I’m also the guy at a restaurant that judges it by A-do they have a menu that appeals to me and food tastes good and
B-are their bathrooms CLEAN, because if they aren’t-WTH is the condition of the kitchen that I can’t see
