Legacy Scout Historical Info

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Is there a place in community.scoutmotors.com for sharing and discussing legacy IH Scout trivia and memorabilia? Particularly stuff from between 1980 and 2020ish?

The thing that prompted me to ask was I was remembering the first time that I remember seeing a Scout II, it was in the short film French Fries to Go. I didn't know it was a Scout at the time. It was about a guy, Charris Ford, who converted a Scout II to run on biodiesel. I think he was in Telluride, which would track.

Some info on the film can be found here: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1292391/

And the film itself can be streamed (for a surprisingly large fee) at https://greenplanetfilms.org/produc...1&_sid=1c4356ef0&_ss=r&variant=34909350264989

I believe I saw it at the traveling Banff film festival, and the ticket prices were less than the home video streaming fee. Although I just checked and 2026 Banff Film Festival prices in my town were also a lot more than I remember.

Anyway, this is more of a question than a suggestion, although I guess if the answer turns out to be no, then my suggestion is to create a space in the forum. I have other stuff I plan to scan in the next week or so, like vintage advertising material that came with my '73 when I purchased it in '05.

The only thread I can think of off the top of my head is this one.

Nothing yet. Seems like you just started one

Tom Selleck in his Jesse Stone movies drove a Scout.

I loved the Scout in this TV series...(previously posted)

I tried to watch that TV show. Unfortunately for me the Scout was the best thing about the show :).

Cool. I was completely unaware of those movies. I suppose you all know, just like there is IMDB, there is IMCDb - Internet Movie Cars Database. https://www.imcdb.org/movie_498360-Jesse-Stone--Night-Passage.html

Also, even though I think it was mostly pre-1980, Burt Reynolds famously loved to include Scouts in his movies.

Not in his movies, and post 1980, Reynolds had a Scout converted into a custom "Wedding Stagecoach", really wild: https://lataco.com/burt-reynolds-wedding-stagecoach

I realized this afternoon I think we have Colorado, Georgia, Massachusettes, Los Angeles and Oceanside covered. I'm going to throw in Brooklyn. Can you spot the Scout in this banger of a short film? It took me three viewings to notice:

Anyway, the point is, for your next road trip, I propose the game, for each of the 50 states name a movie or TV show where a Scout appears in that state. I don't think I could do it.

That’s a great challenge. I’m not even sure a regular movie without a scout is feasible for me 🤣

He was. Frank w. Jenks

The president of IH when the Scout was first launched. But retired a Year or two after they began production.

Hopefully that isn't Uncle Scottys plan.
Related to that, this book is out of print but it can be tracked down. I think I got a paperback copy from one the light line dealers a few years back, but the link no longer seems to work.

The book is worth the read.

And I should say I really really hope Scout Motors does not follow the same path as described in the book.

About 90 minutes from Philly. In Lancaster (the movie Witness) and several other scenes here and there from other movies). May have to check that out.
To be honest, I would not make a special trip. If you are in the area, and you like gnocchi (the italian potato dumpling dish to avoid disambiguation problems), are happy to bring your own wine and pay cash, then this restaurant is for you, as it was for me when I was in the area in 2018 :).
