iOS/Android app? - Forum Suggestion

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Are there any plans to have an iOS app / Android app for the forum? I currently just have it bookmarked on my homescreen but having a dedicated app with notifications would be nice.

Working on some options. Should we integrate it into the vehicle app?
@Jamie@ScoutMotors I would make it an integrated app based on the cellular device and allow wireless connection for a primary/secondary/tertiary device to auto connect to (Primary connects before secondary, but secondary connects automatically if no primary is connected, and so on).

Devices Like the Magic Box 2.0 have a great interface: https://trymagicbox.com/products/the-magic-box-series-2

App would be nice if eventual geo fencing and target visit locations are used to show you’ve visited places. Have it link the visits to the vehicles for long term tracking but app could store as well so people could see fellow Scout accomplishments or visitors to certain locations. If a tie in to the app and camera could be designed to pop up photo memories in your Scout as well would be cool. Camping 2-years ago, pulling parade float with dance group or helping flood victims during hurricane season just to have a memories photo album(s) recognized by Scout

Sorry sometimes words are hard. In this case is was thinking of a sentry mode where you can log into the app at anytime and see who/what is messing with the vehicle in real time.
Ok. Makes sense-similar to what Tesla has. I was thinking you wanted it to work like a trail cam or something-which could be cool. Take the truck to a cabin then watch wildlife at night trough onboard trailcams (night vision?)

Will the app give us the ability to remote start/stop view vehicle details or errors, and monitor the exterior environment?
If the remote start is exposed to the internet in any way it could all go wrong. Kia’s app was recently hacked and the security researchers that hacked it could remote start anyone’s vehicle- they just needed to know the license plate!

Building an app means taking on a lot of tech debt to keep it working for many years into the future.

The apps features need to be really well thought out. Every feature is a huge commitment!

I think the app should be kept fairly simple but have really practical functionality.

I don’t want to be opening an app to unlock my car. This is where things like Apple CarKey bring a big advantage, because you could have lost your key fob and your phone battery could be dead and it would still unlock the truck with nfc. Opening an app should be for rarely used tasks like sharing a digital CarKey with a friend.

I find the Rivian App really useful (FWIW)... At first, I never thought I would use it, but I use it almost everyday. It can be used to schedule preconditioning, or just to turn on the heated seats or steering wheel from the house on a cold morning. It can be used to close windows you left open if it starts raining or snowing. You can plan a route on the app and send it to your truck with any included charging stops. I can access video from overhead and all sides around my truck in the "gearguard" section of the app remotely - its basically a live sentry in my garage or out on the street. You can also use it to schedule maintenance. Anyway, it offers a lot of good functionality - it provides a great extension of key features from the truck. Again, this should be transferable to Scout based on the VW investment and zonal architecture!

I’m not entirely sure how BMW does it. But, I do not have to open the app to unlock the door when I touch the door handle. This paired with my phone, so I assume Bluetooth. I can unlock it remotely from anywhere as well. There is also a traditional key fob. I rarely have it with me though.
