@Jamie@ScoutMotors I would make it an integrated app based on the cellular device and allow wireless connection for a primary/secondary/tertiary device to auto connect to (Primary connects before secondary, but secondary connects automatically if no primary is connected, and so on).Working on some options. Should we integrate it into the vehicle app?
I use to think so. Always thought it would be nice to get notifications when something was posted of the forum. .....but I don't know about that anymore. Our phones would be blowing up now!!Working on some options. Should we integrate it into the vehicle app?
Like a psychologist might ask-explain what you mean with exterior environment? Just curious what that phrase means to you. Will the app give us the ability to remote start/stop view vehicle details or errors, and monitor the exterior environment?
Sorry sometimes words are hard. In this case is was thinking of a sentry mode where you can log into the app at anytime and see who/what is messing with the vehicle in real time.Like a psychologist might ask-explain what you mean with exterior environment? Ok. Makes sense-similar to what Tesla has. I was thinking you wanted it to work like a trail cam or something-which could be cool. Take the truck to a cabin then watch wildlife at night trough onboard trailcams (night vision?)Sorry sometimes words are hard. If the remote start is exposed to the internet in any way it could all go wrong. Kia’s app was recently hacked and the security researchers that hacked it could remote start anyone’s vehicle- they just needed to know the license plate! Will the app give us the ability to remote start/stop view vehicle details or errors, and monitor the exterior environment?
Why not have your cake and eat it too. Do both.Ok. Makes sense-similar to what Tesla has. I was thinking you wanted it to work like a trail cam or something-which could be cool. Take the truck to a cabin then watch wildlife at night trough onboard trailcams (night vision?)
Wireless CarPlay is a must. my wife just bought a car that you have to plug in the phone to get CarPlay but the car has built-in apps that don't really work well. Wireless CarPlay is the greatest thing since pockets!Working on some options. Should we integrate it into the vehicle app?
I find the Rivian App really useful (FWIW)... At first, I never thought I would use it, but I use it almost everyday. It can be used to schedule preconditioning, or just to turn on the heated seats or steering wheel from the house on a cold morning. It can be used to close windows you left open if it starts raining or snowing. You can plan a route on the app and send it to your truck with any included charging stops. I can access video from overhead and all sides around my truck in the "gearguard" section of the app remotely - its basically a live sentry in my garage or out on the street. You can also use it to schedule maintenance. Anyway, it offers a lot of good functionality - it provides a great extension of key features from the truck. Again, this should be transferable to Scout based on the VW investment and zonal architecture!Building an app means taking on a lot of tech debt to keep it working for many years into the future.
The apps features need to be really well thought out. Every feature is a huge commitment!
I think the app should be kept fairly simple but have really practical functionality.
I don’t want to be opening an app to unlock my car. This is where things like Apple CarKey bring a big advantage, because you could have lost your key fob and your phone battery could be dead and it would still unlock the truck with nfc. Opening an app should be for rarely used tasks like sharing a digital CarKey with a friend.
I’m not entirely sure how BMW does it. But, I do not have to open the app to unlock the door when I touch the door handle. This paired with my phone, so I assume Bluetooth. I can unlock it remotely from anywhere as well. There is also a traditional key fob. I rarely have it with me though.Building an app means taking on a lot of tech debt to keep it working for many years into the future.

App would be great for the forum and integrating it into the vehicle would be awesome as well. May be helpful for people to find solutions for common problems or better ways to use the vehicle almost like a living manual.Working on some options. Should we integrate it into the vehicle app?
