FB find of the day

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Unfortunately getting enough battery in a smaller pick up kills the range truck drivers want. Guessing when eventually SSB come about then they may be more likely
I’m not convinced of that. From what I can tell, the real problem is that dealerships and manufacturers want to sell big pickups because they’ve manipulated regulations to give them bigger tax breaks for bigger vehicles and they make more money by selling high-margin vehicles like the big pickups. I’m convinced that sales of smaller vehicles are down not because of consumer preference but because of the same thing we talked about with what’s offered to consumers. You can’t buy a car that’s not being made. You can’t buy a color that’s not being put on the vehicle.

If you didn’t care about getting a pickup that can do 3.5 seconds 0-60 and tow 10,000 pounds, you could do a body-on-frame pickup like a Tacoma with design cues from something like the EV9 and get fantastic range with a reasonable towing capacity of 3500-5000 pounds.

Compare the EV9 with a Tacoma:
The EV9 has an ~100 kWh battery and gets an estimated range of 305 miles.
2026 EV9 Dimensions:
Width: 77.9 inches
Length: 197.2 inches
Wheelbase: 122 inches
Height: 68.9 inches
Ground clearance: 7 inches
Frontal surface area: 3.46 square meters.
Coefficient of drag: 0.28
Effective surface area: 0.97 square meters

2025 Tacoma xtracab, 6-ft bed:
Width (w/o mirrors): 76.9 inches
Length: 213.0 inches
Wheelbase: 131.9 inches
Height: 74 inches
Ground Clearance: 8.1 inches
Frontal surface area: 3.67 square meters
Coefficient of drag: about 0.38 for the xtracab, 2WD.
Effective surface area: 1.37 square meters.

The Tacoma is slightly skinnier, but taller. And it’s longer in both total length and wheelbase. There’s plenty of room for an EV9-sized 100 kWh battery between its frame rails.

If you took your design cues from something like the EV9 to get a better coefficient of drag and smaller front surface area, and had a 100 kWh battery. That would get you a good 305 miles range without even trying. And you’d still have extra space between the wheels for about 8% more battery, which isn’t a ton, but 8% more range would give you 330 miles.

The EV9 long range has a towing capacity of 2000 pounds. For 5000 pound towing capacity, they added a second motor, upped the power in both motors, and reduced the range. Put the higher horsepower motor in a RWD truck, and you can get back to 3500 to 5000 pounds without losing much range, especially if you have a Tow/Haul mode to engage the extra horsepower only when you need it.

The excuses manufacturers are making are not real engineering challenges, they’re market challenges that were created by the legacy market leaders rather than the consumers.

I look forward to Kia’s entry into the mid-sized pickup space, though I hope they offer a 2-door version with a 6-foot bed. Or maybe Toyota will do it first. We’ll see.

It’s no pale butter YELLOW, but I’m intrigued.
How is this one?

I won’t argue against your points but Scout has implied there is t enough battery space under something much smaller than the Traveler to get range over 310-320? People are already unhappy with 350 miles range so going less IMO would just sour people. I agree most people don’t need full sized pick ups but I think you need to get to 350 on a mid size pick ups to get the majority of truck buyers to adopt. Because as we dissed yesterday-I don’t see the Slate ultimately appealing to tons of people. To me the Slate is a west coast vehicle and a starter vehicle for a younger demographic who can’t afford a $45K EV??? Tough to really know for sure

You could get 3500 miles to a charge and someone would still whine.

It’s funny: to me the Slate is an east-coast vehicle for the close, high-density areas. 🤣

Nah. East coast likes big stuff. Even Jamie said everyone in NY was wanting fully loaded and want to know when the 3- row is coming. And can they get from NYC to Orlando with only one stop 🤣🤣🤣

We have the Stripes, Decals and Emblems!

How many of us relate to heritage Scout with all the stickies and how many of remember them without? I don't think anyone with a Scout in my orbit BITD could afford decals :ROFLMAO:...

I would say that’s a great Easter egg. Amazed you captured that as quickly as it flowed by. How many tries did that take. It’s not butter yellow but nice catch and still hope for a yellow
