Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

I don't normally think of the person at the valet stand when purchasing a car, but I guess... it could be a consideration for someone who valet parks regularly :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
But I always consult our swanky local city valet drivers before I purchase a vehicle. Who better to offer advice 🤣

After reading this I am left pondering what would a sub $30k Scout branded vehicle vehicle look like. How would it be equipped? Is it even possible?

My son has one of those. He has a Hyundai Venue. It was $24k. Now it has all the safety features, cloth seats, heated seats, no sun roof, but it’s little. 4 doors and only 155 inches long.

I’m afraid if they tried to do that it would end up like that. Something like a Bronco Sport.

Now you can get 2 door Wranglers in the mid $30s. If they did something like that. 2 door. Cloth seats. Safety features but not all the fancy bells and whistles I could see that working, but please no Scout Sport.

There's no way to make a vehicle in the USA that's worthy of the Scout name for $30k or less. A rebadged VW Taos could be done, but it would have no capabilities without serious upgrades and a $40k+ price tag. Tidy dimensions for the trails, though (175.8–175.9 inches in length, 72.5 inches in width (without mirrors), and 64–65.1 inches in height, with a 105.9-inch wheelbase).

Subaru has 2 AWD cars on the list and there are also 2 EVs.
I agree a BEV that has 4WD is probably difficult, but again I say, Scout SSV

Would it sell now? I don't know, and we will never know if it would have sold in good volumes in 1981.

Seems like an unlikely scenario. As for the list in the article there are only like 5 vehicles I’d put my money on if I wanted a reliable vehicle. At those prices you get what you pay for

I hear you and agree… BUT the compact suv segment is absolutely massive. It makes a ton of business sense to look at that segment.

It doesn’t seem like it, but the original Scout 80 is nearly identical in length and width to a Mazda MX5 Miata. People seem to really like that size. However, a little bit bigger that could support 4 doors, or a 2 door removable top. I keep thinking about the 4 door Isuzu rodeo and the quasi convertible 2 door Amigo sibling. Lots of shared components and frame. Could support BEV and harvester. I would image that once they get the software right for harvester that a smaller engine and battery could be utilized for a smaller vehicle fairly easily. Body on frame makes it easy to put a different shaped body on the same frame.

I get it, but then go with something that looks like the R3. Small Rallye car looking thing that looks great with Rallye stripes.
I think that is too big a jump. I think if SM could make numbers and battery size work, a two-door Bronco sized suv would be a huge success for them. But make it a 4-door with the hidden rear door access so you get the look people want better convenience of of 4- door

It's funny how many posts I have seen wanting a 3 row SUV and now something smaller than the traveler......

guys.....

Lets get the first 2 out before we really start pondering third, fourth, fifth models from Scout, lol.
It’s fun to think about what’s next. Don’t forget that Scout actively reads this forum. If you want to see something from Scout there is no better place to say it.

It's not unusual for manufacturer to have strategic plans 5-10 years out for future models. While I understand don't put the cart in front of the horse, now may be the perfect time to start advocating for what we want to see in the future. We're seeing this now with Rivian who started with similar models of a midsize truck and SUV in 2021 and is expanding it's models this year and in the very near future.

Also Scout Motors should be planning ahead for how to adapt their production lines to run multiple models at once that expand their TAM (total addressable market).

And, as I frequently tell myself, the best time to get something difficult done was yesterday. The next best time is today.
