Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Pretty impressive that its drag is 0.24 for the style it is.

Nice specification for the small cross-over. SAV as BMW likes to call them.
Here is a little extra information on this sharp looking SAV
note: If you follow the link there is a very good 10 min. video.

Harassing foreign investors will slow economic growth.

“Among those detained at the factory were South Korean employees of LG Energy Solution on business travel. Hyundai Motor said it believed that it didn’t directly employ any of those detained. LG Energy said Friday it was cooperating with the South Korean government and relevant authorities to ensure the employees’ safety and secure their prompt release from detention.

The joint venture said it was cooperating with authorities and paused construction.

South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday expressed regret at the detention of Korean nationals at the Georgia site and said it had conveyed its concerns to the U.S. Embassy.

“The economic activities of our investing companies and the rights and interests of our citizens must not be unjustly infringed during the process of U.S. law enforcement,” the ministry said.”

This is why I don’t start throwing 3rd party things in my vehicles. Especially while they are still under warranty.

Comma AI has been discussed in the forums before. Examples like this, no matter how rare, are reasons why I won't use systems like this that might put my life or the lives of others at risk. It took $800 in labor to figure out Comma AI was the likely cause.

Federal law currently still protects consumers from most anti-warranty claims involving 3rd party add-ons or customization.

The Comma thing is weird for me, though. I’m 100% for Open and Free software and hardware. But I don’t trust an ADAS system that has only 90 million miles of learning. It’s much, much more than most automobile manufacturers have, but still not nearly enough.

Plus, I don’t trust a system that doesn’t have easy access to the vehicle’s communications bus because manufacturers are actively hiding their interfaces and making it ridiculously difficult to access the vehicle’s communications. The issue seen here would likely not have happened if the Comma developers didn’t have to guess what Rivian’s system was doing.

That hiding and encrypting of interfaces, by the way, is entirely anti-right-to-repair and I hope this is one place where Scout breaks from Rivian. Rivian hides their vehicle communications behind a proprietary DOIP interface and encrypted communications.

Scout claims they want to support right to repair, so they should include OBD2 with access to their CANBUS or a similar open, well-documented, standardized interface for users to get to the data from their vehicle and to be able to effect repairs. Without it, owners are entirely dependent on the manufacturer and won’t be able to diagnose any electrical or computer issues on their own. If something breaks at the wrong time, there will be no recourse, even if it’s a simple problem to fix.
