Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
The low voltage battery in the trunk is so tiny!

It looks like the one I have on my motorcycle lol

Is this the slate? I thought it was an EV.
It is the Slate.

EVs typically have a high voltage system that is the battery pack, motors, regen brakes, etc. Typically a 400V system is overkill for some parts of your car.

But for things like your window motors, headlights, doors, stereo, blinkers etc. they use a separate low voltage system like traditional cars that is charged by the high voltage system.

Most of them are 12V but some like the Cybertruck use a 48V low voltage system if I am not mistaken.

Thanks, it was more a question of it’s an EV without a frunk. That doesn’t seem right.

Munro Live:

Exclusive Tour of Slate Auto’s Beta EV Factory + Interview with CEO & Lead Engineer

I don't have any interest in watching the video, but I am curious about something. If you have watched it, please save me some time! :p

Does the video say if Slate has started building out it's manufacturing site? I remember reading somewhere that they were planning to convert an old printing factory in Warsaw, Indiana. But that same article also said they were looking for funding to do that. They claim they are going to start deliveries in 2026. I find it hard to believe they can do that when they have not even started building out a factory yet. I was going to put a deposit down on a Slate (in addition to my Scout deposit), but after doing more research this seems like elaborate vaporware to me.

Well this is really interesting and seems like a great idea.

It does, and hopefully Scout (and others) can do similar in the future. Whenever a gen 2 Scout comes out it would be nice to be able to update our original ones if we want to. That way earlier adopters aren't left behind as certain technology improves over time.

I think this is an awesome idea. At one point you could pay like $300-$400 every few years to update navigation in Acuras and other brands. This seems like a bargain in comparison to what all you gain

Same with my Lexus. You had to buy a NAV DVD periodically to update it. One for each coast.

My Nav DVD player broke last year. They dont make the Nav DVD player anymore and I couldnt find a new motor for it so i ended up replacing the whole head unit with an Android head unit. It was a PITA because my AC controls went through the NAV unit so I had to mess with wiring, CANBUS settings, and configurations to get it all to work.

It would be awesome if more OEMs let you buy tech upgrades instead of trying to push you to buy a whole new car.

My Wrangler it’s just one. Was a USB stick and we got partway through the install and it wanted a code! And it wasn’t something you could say oh never mind. If you didn’t have the code it was basically going to brick my stereo and nav. We finally figured out how to find it and I never updated it after that. A few years ago I replaced it and have Apple Car Play now. It’s so nice not having to pay for a map update anymore.
