Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

From the Honda Solid State EV article:
It all sounds excellent, and it’s undeniable that progress will be made, but Honda execs didn’t hold back on significant roadblocks that still lie ahead. The biggest issue is that the prototype battery cells the automaker is experimenting with are tiny and can’t be used in any vehicle–100 times too small, in fact.
So, I wouldn't hold my breath.

There’s been some reporting about vehicle production being affected by the new Chinese restrictions on the export of certain rare earths materials to anywhere in the world.

see for example this report:
Auto companies face shortages due to China's rare earth restrictions

I work for a company that uses neodymium magnets in some audio transducer products. We can no longer source the material because it all comes from china. We can’t even get it via another country because the Chinese ban is worldwide. We cannot replace neodymium with another material. One of our most popular products is now indefinitely out of stock.

When production lines stop, workers get laid off and I think these Chinese material export restrictions are going to hit more factories around the world in the coming weeks and months.

Neodymium is also essential to EV motors. Might it be possible that this new Chinese policy, reacting to US tariffs, will eventually stall EV production, both in the US and elsewhere?

@THil08 - is this the thread you usually use to ask Jamie about monthly progress news? Figured it should be happening soon. Let the wagering begin 😀
I forget, I think that thread might have been lost.

But I think Jamie likes screwing with us because the May update was released this week, but yet he never put it up on here.

This is a pretty big deal.

"R2 is the platform that will underpin actually all future EV products at VW," Bensaid said in an interview with Yahoo Finance. "So it's really that modular, scalable technology stack that we will take into VW brands, and we will do it in a way where we will still allow each of the brands to express their own identity."

With that platform and tech stack, Rivian will offer almost an “off-the-shelf” solution for Volkswagen to use for its upcoming ID1 EV. But the plan is that other VW brands like Skoda and Audi would get access to the R2 platform to use as they please.

"Each brand will have their own UI, look and feel," Bensaid said. "Each brand will have their own suspension tuning … but underneath the guts of the vehicle will be optimized based on the same technology and software architecture."

The tax credit is gone and they are adding a regressive EV registration fee. Ugh
I would rather the registration fee and have lower overall taxes. So, I'll take this bill as a positive for my lower federal taxes being that NJ decides to take 75% of my income each year from state taxes so it feels like.

Well at least scout is being the bigger man and is building their own platform.

BTW the other new article is a good read and this pic is awesome

Wow, that is…huge. Honda is using GM’s ultium platform for their first few EVs (pilot, I think) but VW has plenty of resources to build their own. Kind of surprised they didn’t. Really speaks (hopefully) to R2’s quality.
