I’m not entirely sure what to think about that potential deal. I was under the impression the batteries were being made at another plant thru Scout. Didn’t Hyundai have problems with their batteries catching fire or something like that or am I remembering this incorrectly.

If I’m reading the article right, the component is not the batteries themselves but the system that assembles them into one integrated pack.

Yeah, I read it the same way:

It sounds like they're delivering the BSA (Battery System Assembly) which from my read is:
- the Battery Pack: The actual energy storage component.
- the Battery Management System (BMS): The computer/electronics that monitor the battery's health, temperature, and charging.
- key Electronic Modules: Additional electrical components required to manage the flow of power

I am guessing and curious what others think, does that mean?:
PowerCo (VW subsidiary in Canada) makes the cells -> ships them to South Carolina -> Hyundai Mobis puts them into the final box (BSA) -> delivers them to the Scout

From what I've read, Hyundai Mobis has a deal with VW spain for VW EVs in Europe. That's sounds like good news, some history and maybe the kinks have been worked out.

After watching Chris Benjamin on The InEVitable podcast I also listened to their episode on battery recycling, manufacturing, technology, and critical minerals. This was a very educational episode for anyone reading this Hyundai Mobis report and trying to figure out the dynamics of the EV battery market, manufacturing, American competitiveness, etc.
