EV/Gas Scout Terra

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

If the estimated range of the EV Terra is 350 miles and the EV/gas is estimated at 500 miles, what would be the estimated range on range on battery before the generator kicks in?

Suspect it will come down to a lot of factors but @THil08 is in the same neighborhood I would guess but if heavy strain sooner and easy cruising probably closer to 80-100

I thought Scout has said 150 miles range on the battery for the Harvester model, then generator extends to a total of 500. Am I mistaken on that?

This is correct.

Given that they seem to be talking about "gas and go" for freeway travel, I'm expecting the EV only range to be ~150 miles before the harvester turns on, in normal operating conditions. I really don't expect them to let you drive the vehicle down to 0% SOC before the generator comes on. So I'm assuming once you hit ~5-20% SOC, the generator will kick on, in "auto" mode. And that is what I'd assume the ~150 mile range comes from.

If you are going on a long road trip, and want to keep the batteries SOC closer to ~50-80% or something like that (like if you know you are going to be going up huge passes in the mountains, or you are towing), then I'd assume you can manually turn it on earlier. They've shown the slider where you can set the target %% in the UI already (in the CES videos).

But if it functions like a normal PHEV (which I know this is not), they typically default to using all the available EV range, before they fall back to the gas engine. In my PHEV's case, that is after ~30 miles, when going over ~80mph, or, when we turn on the heater (we don't have a heat pump, or resistive heater).

I suppose it could be lower. But I really don't think they'll be advertising how far it can go if you drive it to 0% SOC, because the performance would start to degrade pretty heavily once you get close to 0%. So whatever that minimum SOC is where they turn on the generator, thats what I'm guessing is the "EV only" range, of 150 miles.

Guess we'll see though :).

I really don't think anyone knows the answer to this question including Scout. I am all in on Terra total EV. When they actually figure it out I will reconsider Harvester.
