I know there has been talk on here about it what the Traveler will look like without the spare tire carrier. This shot shows what the tire carrier hinges look like on the concept.

And I know I have no need for a Jerry can, but I do like how it looks on the back.

Better yet, I’m just building a container and wrapping it to look like an energizer battery 🤣

The Williams F1 car is one of my favorite. Duracell is one of their sponsors and part of the car is painted to look like a battery. 😹

Good point. I think I’ll do the battery wrap look then coil some red and blue pen piping to look like wires into the car. Kind of modern Back to the future DeLorean kinda vibe. And then the electrical version of truck nutz

That is correct. However, Jamie chimed in on this saying without carrier a panel is just snapped in its place. So if the carrier is user removable you maybe just purchase the "panel" and you have the best of both worlds. however you would of course still see the hinge.

Given the weight and importance of structural integrity, I wouldn't say that this will be super easy to just remove from the vehicle by the typical owner. We have to wait and see how the production version turns out.

Thank you for your response. I know a lot of us, including myself are wondering if the carrier would be removable. :)
 
Did not see much about "Body on frame" construction, except the fact that Scout should not mix metals, which makes sense..that said, what will Scout do to improve the ride due to the less comfortable ride of body on frame , from what I am told???? I Imagine some here are older and will not use this off roading so the comfort of the ride matters...TIA...

If you are worried about ride I recommend you add the air-suspension option to you order.

I have built and purchased a few swingout steel bumpers in the past. They all had a spindle welded to the bumper that you slipped the swingout arm down on and secured with a nut. They can be a pain to do by yourself.

Since the Scout carrier is free floating from the bumper youll need to align the carrier with its hinge and install a pin. This could potentially be easier to install and remove if there is a small derlin pad that the carrier rests on when its closed. That way you can remove the pin while its still latched, then release the latch and pull the whole thing straight out. Installing it would be easier as well since you could slide it straight forward into the tailgate and lock one side in with the latch and slide the pin in the other side.

(As an aside, I hope it has a grease zerk so it doesnt need to be removed to lubricate the pin)

This is just me, but I imagine it being something like removing the top off the Wrangler. You need some sort of specialized lift that has a rack built in to store it. I don’t see this as a “oh I don’t want my tire carrier on today, let me just take that off real quick”.

I understand why people would want to remove it, but the tire carrier drew me in from the start and she’s keeping her tire carrier on. I have no plans to ever remove it.

One thing people often overlook when it comes to ride quality is sidewall height.

Your tires are the largest shock absorber on your vehicle.

If you opt for 20" wheels and 33" tires youll have a harsher ride that the same exact vehicle with 18" wheels and 35" tires.


So that is something I would take into consideration when placing my order.

As Dreamweaver mention there will be an Air Ride option available, and the offroad package is supposed to offer special shock tuning as well.
