Bigger frunk

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

From the videos I've seen online. The frunk looks a bit small. It doesn't look big enough to fit luggage. I thought the purpose of a frunk was to give extra storage. Having the frunk as a seating area is fine but more front storage space would be optimal.

It just occurred to me that overloading your frunk would not be an issue with the Scout. Just pull the lid down as far as possible, then bunge-cord the hood tie-down points to the front recovery points and voila, you are a real Scout redneck.
They should sell redneck bungees just for that

To be honest, the frunk on the scout seems larger than almost any other frunk I've seen.

Most EV's seem to have a frunk somewhere closer to the size of the Kia EV9/Hyundai Ioniq 9 (1.8 -2.8 cu ft). With some having none, and some having larger. And while we don't know the total dimensions on the Scout frunk yet, it seems visually, one of the largest frunks I've seen.

What frunks look bigger?

The Mustang Mach-e is 4.7 cu. ft. I think The Traveler Frunk looks bigger.

Ohh, nice context.

Visually that is quite a bit smaller than the Scout. Yet I'd venture to say that that is probably larger than average.

That got me curious. Here is the copilot answer.

So my guess of the Ioniq 9/EV9's frunks being sort of "average" sized seems at least close? Although on the low end.

Although, apparently if you don't count the models without frunks as zero volume, the avg is closer to the Mustang Mach-E.

Wow! nice work . I guess you really have thought about this. Now if we can just get someone to measure the Scout frunks.

Okay who is seeing it in NYC? I know @J Alynn is going. If the frunk is open J, jump in it and have someone take a picture. Can the frunk hold a body??
Second the motion.

And if so, which TV show can we get SM to collaborate to subtly showcase this?

I'm behind the times on murder mystery shows. But something that is like NCIS, Bones, Psych, Castle, or anything like that, and that could be a hilarious subtle marketing campaign :P.

There are size comparison graphics around this site. The size of the front bumper-to-door of the Scout Terra looks to be nearly the same as that dimension of the Lightning. Assuming that, the dimensions of the frunk are likely to be very similar. Some photos make it look like the Scout frunk might actually be deeper.

Here are some photos I stole from various places online:

I’m noticing an issue that I hope is not going to be on the production Scouts.

They have the water seal on the frunk lid. That doesn’t protect against water infiltration into the frunk nearly as much as a raised lip does.

Notice the smooth surface around the frunk? And notice the rubber gasket seal on the frunk lid? I would be very, very worried about the water-tightness of the frunk with that setup. If you open the frunk in the rain, for instance, the water will run off the back of the hood and some will spalsh into the frunk area. The Lightning has a raised lip to help keep water out of the frunk. The Scout concepts do not. I hope they invert this and put a raised lip around the frunk to help keep water out.

The production version will be different in a number of ways but similar in size/capacity. The front lip will be higher to accommodate the front radar sensors. That most likely means the pull-out seat tray may not make production. Finding places for everything becomes really difficult when we need removable bumpers that can withstand impacts offroad and meet crash standards.

Thanks for setting expectations when you can Jamie. I did like that feature but it makes sense why it can’t happen. Part of the 15%. Could it perhaps lift up so you can still have access to that area underneath? Or will there be an underneath in production?

I find that we never once wondered if sitting in the frunk would be better with a sliding seat tray. We’ve always just sat in the frunk to watch the sunset.

That said, I have considered installing a sliding kitchen tray in the frunk to expand the use of the frunk kitchen we have while camping.

I think the design team is making the right choice regarding removable bumpers over the sliding tray.

Completely agree with that.

In person it feels very generous as a secondary storage space
