Actual delay official and order of deliveries confirmed?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Realistically, I think they fully intend to produce both variants at the same time. Reservations aren't guarantees, but even if all reservations converted were not locked in on our power choice until we place the order, any of them can change either way, so I think scout might aim to do more EREVs in a batch, but not 100% per batch
I am hopeful this is the intent as well and want to presume this to be. I also believe in next to years infrastructure will improve, gas prices will convert many and as main stream advertising begins more BEV buyers will line up. The other question I have is there is likely going to be a launch edition. Many of the early res holders want BEV as that’s what brought us here 2 years prior to launch. So what does that mean for a first year launch edition-do they all go to harvesters? Or do 80% go to the earliest harvester res and 20% to the earliest BEV res holders? That will be a curious hurdle to determine

That’s a good question. As does the Terra get a launch edition when it launches?

I read the announcements as a primarily an assurance to Harvester reservations that they will not be unduly delayed due to their by prioritizing EV's. It never said EV's were being delayed or not being made, just that Harvesters, with their added complexity and later start on development will not be waiting like second class passengers.

Boy this is all in interpretation. Goodness.

It’s been said both can be run on same line and Jamie confirmed that. Now can it do 2 harvesters then a BEV etc… during one shift or is it 100 EREVs M/T/W then BEV on R/F?
Thanks, J Alynn, that makes me more hopeful. With the R2 coming out soon I will need to decide soon if I should wait. The brilliance in human factors design places the scout in a league of its own.

If they can-that is great. My only argument has been if they delay everything by 6 months when in theory the BEV is all waorked out why wouldn’t you start the BEV’s AND-added bonus-those who don’t love and follow cars would start seeing them and want to buy and might just boost the BEV sales side.
That's exactly what I've been thinking. Why wouldn't they, as long as the BEV is ready to start production before the EREV? It wouldn't make sense. Unless there's something about production I don't understand. And with the latest solid state battery innovations, perhaps that will change demand significantly.

Just fyi, these Scouts will not have solid state batteries. They are testing and engineering now and solid state batteries aren’t ready for prime time so to speak. Maybe someday, but not our first Scouts.

It is, but Jamie has mentioned that there is more work necessary getting the Harvester into production than the BEV (a combination of more complexity and a later start on development). So I see the announcement more of a confirmation that that additional work is still on schedule for 2028 deliveries.

But yes, sure, as a BEV reservation holder - I am trying to look at things optimistically.

My reservation is Terra Harvester. When I recently installed a small, house battery back up, I had the electrician install a 240V/50A outlet from the main panel to charge the batteries in addition to the sub panel. Once I get some solar installed that plug will be available for L2 charging, which is what I will do for all local driving. I would use the Harvester only for long trips.

Having said all that I’m still on the fence. If the BEV Terra has a decent range, I’ll will go BEV. Don’t ask me what “decent” is, I really have no idea at this point. This purchase is being driven strictly by emotional attachment to Scouts in my youth.

I am with you. Fond memories of driving my grandfather's Terra into the irrigation canal when I was 10 years old. Don't think it had power steering. If all this Harvester sillyness could have been put into the BEV line SM could have for sure offered a max pack version of the Terra that would have been a rivian killer. I wonder if VW pressured them to go so gung ho on the ice generator. Just wish Scott could be more like RJ.

I think you're reading more into this than there is. Just like they're starting with Traveller because they have more reservations, why would the powertrain choice be any different? If they have more demand for Harvester, why not start with that? They are simply responding to their customer's desires - I don't think there's anything political about it.

I also don't think it will be a huge delay between configs. Jamie already said that the line treats Travellers the same. Some get a gas tank, engine, and smaller battery and some get the larger battery. Once they have the line stabilized with the more complicated Harvester config they will start running BEVs. Heck with the fancy automation stuff they have now they could probably do 2 Harvesters and then a BEV, 2 Harvesters and then a BEV, and on and on.

I hope that the case. What happens if there are tons of issues or the Harvester do not perform as asspected?

I am going to pass along a little advice from my great grandma. If the question starts with what if, we don’t have to worry about it.

They are going to test the heck out of these things. I live in the BloNo area. The No part of that is Normal, Illinois. Home of Rivian. Before they were released you could always tell who worked for Rivian because they had the “funny looking trucks” parked in their driveway. I’m sure Scout is going to do the same. Will there be issues? Yes. There always is with a brand new car. But are there issues with cars made my brands that have existed for decades? Also yes. They fix the issues. I know I’m simplifying here, but it’s my personality. It’s gonna be great. EREV/BEV whatever, the Scouts are going to be amazing machines.

Ya but what if your wrong 😉

It happens and it can all work in testing and one weird scenario happens and suddenly 100’s get recalled. But I digress as this is another negative path we are headed down

Okay J I will quite being negative Nelly. With all my concerns and selfish wants my Terra bev rez is staying at least until fall of 2028.

I think it’s fair to have and express feelings of concern.

We don’t really know much about what’s going to happen.

Every day brings new challenges for a start-up in the automotive industry, even a very well-funded start-up like Scout Motors. They’re looking 2-3 years ahead while trying to not respond too dramatically to the political nonsense going on…but at some point some of the political nonsense becomes more permanent and they will have to respond.

For example, it’s not inconceivable that oil goes to $150-$200 per barrel in a relatively short time period.

Carvana is selling its used EVs very quickly right now. Prices have been increasing by several hundred a day to several thousand over the past several days. It’s not inconceivable that the over-subscription of Scout EREVs will drop dramatically if the idiotic war continues. As I understand it, the production lines are agnostic about BEV vs EREV (as they should be). If Scout sees that people are switching their EREV reservations to BEV reservations, they will probably be able to respond relatively quickly to that change in demand.
