Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

How about lockable bike racks inside the bed?

I recall seeing a track system in the back of the Traveler, but I can’t recall if they mentioned a track system for the Terra bed. If they do have one, I don’t see why it couldn’t be used to rack bikes.

It appears the Terra tracks are on the side of the bed.

This can all of course change before launch.

How about lockable bike racks inside the bed?

Out of curiosity, what exactly are you envisioning here?

I'm a pretty avid mountain biker, and a lockable area where you can fit your bike is a popular request for the truly avid cyclists that like to travel, so I hear that. But modern mountain bikes are quite long, and tall, and I just don't know if realistically it would fit.

My size large mountain bike has a wheelbase of ~1276mm, and has 29in wheels at both ends, which means that the overall length is ~6ft 8in long. Which means it's not going to fit in the Terra bed with the wheels on and the tailgate up. And I doubt that would fit in the Traveler even with the second row seats down.

And I just went out and measured, its ~44in tall to the handlebars and saddle (both about the same height). Now, I don't know how much vertical space between the floor and roof there is with a normal cab high camper cover/truck topper, but the AI answers seem to say that its ~36-40in of space. Which means, many bikes won't fit vertically either.

If you do a fork mount (remove the front wheel), you MIGHT be able to fit a modern mountain bike inside the 5.5ft bed of the Terra. For instance, my bike without the front wheel on, would be ~5.5ft on the dot. That likely would fit inside the Traveler.

If you do a fork mount, a cool solution would be to do something like the image below. A slide out rack makes it way, way easier (from what I can tell anyway, I've never used one).

That said, Mountain bikes are quite a bit longer than other bikes these days. About 8-12in longer from what I can tell. So, a common road bike might fit in the Terra with the wheels on, and of course kids bikes/etc.

Anyway, I'm just curious exactly what you're envisioning.

I'm pretty much resigned to carrying the bike on the bike rack on the back. But that also means that I can't likely use the Travelers spare tire on the back. And if I need the bike inside the traveler, I'll have to use that 40/20/40 split rear seat to slide the bike through the center, with the front wheel off.

There are some hitch mounted tire carriers that swingout, and have a 2" receiver slot so you could still add a bike rack or other accessories and still have your spare with you.
