I was watching the Kim Java interview on the Scout Traveler and there was no mention of the roof sun shade slider. I also did not see any portion sticking out that would let you know that there was one. I am currently driving a Rivian R1S and I came from driving a Tesla Model Y and Model 3. This is a major pet peve of mine that car manufacturers are taking bad cues from Tesla. Having a glass roof is miserable without a slider. There is absolutely zero execuse why there isn't one as a standard offering. No one should have to buy a third party product to put into place and take down when they want protection and when they want to see the outside.

Rivian's second generation R1S dynamic tinting is a poor substitute because the person has to buy a higher tier vehicle to get the option to buy that as an add on. Even with the dynamic tinting there are still people who purchase third party products to put a shade up. A slider is a standard solution that should be included with every vehicle.

If you make a product better than the competition then people are inclined to purchase and stick with your product over the competition. Tesla does not care about creature comforts or practicality of use. This is why the competiton can overtake Tesla. They are to busy forcing autonomous driving onto people instead of catering to the needs and desires of people who actually want to drive their vehicle.

In the previous interviews that I had watched a sunshade slider was mentioned. There isn't one mentioned here in Kim's interview. There is the version which will have a rag top but that is a different story and completely fine as it is.

Also, wasn't this glass roof supposed to open up? Not just the version with the rag top, but the glass should open up! I drive people around in the Rivian R1S and they are always asking to open the roof but it doesn't open. Please learn from the Hyundai Ioniq 9! They currently have a three row suv which has a sunshade slider for the glass roof, as well as the ability to open up.

I love the lighting but can the lighting be changed? Please, don't pull a Rivian and only give 8 theme colors to choose from! I would like to have indepenent lighting zone color controls please! Even cooler would be to have lighting controls for the exterior as well! You wouldn't believe but the first generation Rivian R1S Quad which I am driving does not have footwell RGB lighting. I had to install third party lights for the footwell areas in the front and under the front seats!

Also, where are the rails for stepping into and out of the car? The ground clearance is crazy high on the Traveler so something that people who I pick up always complain about is that there isn't a step. Rivian tries to provide the solution of raising or lowering the suspension but the issue is that the suspension air compressors overheat in leveling off the car and absorbing the bumps as I drive around. I may have it lower and raise quite often and it will lock me out of being able to adjust the suspension height when it is overheated. The issue is that when the Rivian R1S is in the lower suspension height it still rides rough on the soft setting. The suspension has to be raised to the normal ride height to be soft.

There is a search button here which will help you find answers. There has been discussions about shades so I’ll let you dig in. I’ll offer-as a gesture, not an attach, it’s helpful to also note what you like on the forum as well as everything you don’t. This is a community that supports when folks are open but those who come in “screaming tend to get attacked.
Glass roof was never presented as operable. Check out the search, keyword and you’ll find the history of most items you seem displeased with.
Welcome again and enjoy the forum!

Hi again!

Okay , let’s see what I can answer for you.

These are concept vehicles. While very close to what we will see in our production Scouts there will be some changes. I have seen the concepts in person multiple times and every time I have asked I have been told they are 85% of what we will see on production. So we are expecting some small changes. For example there isn’t a grab handle on the driver side, there will be on production.

The glass roof is not intended to open. We are expecting a shade based on comments we have heard. If you want something to open that’s the cabana roof (my personal choice at this time).

As for interior lighting, nothing that I have seen on that at this point.

Right now the vehicles are shown on 35s with rock sliders. They have stated tire sizes will be 33s and 35s and they will have an accessories shop at the factory. I can’t imagine you couldn’t buy a side step at that accessories shop it it was something that wasn’t offered from the factory.

Welcome again.

I thought the same as you before I bought my R1. I really thought it would be like the surface of the sun. But I've not noticed any issue with it. Now in fairness, I live in Minnesota, so not the South where you guys get really hot.

Broverlander you are not stating what generation you have of the R1 or even what model type, and if it has the dynamic tinting as well. If a product is meant to appeal to the masses it needs to manufactured as such, not zonally region specific. So if your market is the USA and your product can't go from Coast to Coast, and boarder to boarder, but its meant to be an offroading vehicle, you have engineered a contraditory product, which will affect your sales.

If a product is engineered for ideal conditions only, then it is not a practical product. With proven examples and test studies in engineering existing already for vehicles for decades, if you are going to launch a vehicle to critical and financial success it is best to listen to the audience who's attention you are drawing and glean tidbits from their feedback. As Scout has stated this forum is to glean that information and it is not a finished product thus this is exactly when you would want to supply that feedback.

Basically, those who live further south where it gets 80 degrees or warmer, even 75 degrees fahrenheit can be too hot without a sunroof slider for protection because of the varying thickness of the Ozone layer. The sun hits harder the further south you go even if the ambient temperature is lower.

maynard, you clearly need reading comprehesion skills. I am making a request to Scout as they are asking for feedback through this forum on their products which are currently in development. Clearly you don't know that all caps means a person is screaming. Clearly you are making zero attempts to understand what this forum is actually meant to provide, which is a place to improve the product and produce a lasting design which will critically acclaimed and financially profitable. As the product is in development and new versions are being released to the public as was released in the Kim Java video that means new information is now in the pipeline which brings new questions.

Thanks for replying about what information you knew! The whole point of putting in feedback to Scout through the forum currently is that it is not a finalized product so the concerns of potential customers can be heard and addressed which can lead to increased sales, repeat customers, critical acclaim, and financial success.

I had seen videos previously during the summer where people where performing interviews with Scout and saying that the Traveler glass roof would open. So, the product is in development, just as in the Kim Java video they showcased a new version of the Scout Traveler that wasn't being showcased before.

Previously Tesla employee, Model 3 owner and current Gen 2 R1T owner without the monochromatic roof here. Additionally I live in the Georgia where the temps and the humidity in the summer make you wish you weren't born lol! But I agree with you on the open glass roof that companies need to stop copying Tesla and at the very least make a retractable sunshade. After after having a solid glass roofs for the past going on 5 years enough is enough.

However, thats one of the things about the Scout that is making me leave Rivian and its the cabana top. I think this type of top offers the best of both worlds and I'm really looking forward to it. I think a movable glass roof is a long shot now tbh, and one thing that I am certain Scout is considering is how many people are going to put on roof racks, and the challenges or potential problems that a movable glass roof would create.

Regarding the RGB lighting I'm with you there too. I mean we don't even get red lighting in our Rivian's...the nerve lol! But seriously, I too would like the option of a color wheel to change the lighting to whatever we want and not be locked like we are currently. That being said, I haven't see anything other than the Scout "soft lighting" on the concepts so far.

Lastly, crazy to hear that your suspension locks you out after repeated use. I've never had that warning on my Gen 2 and I turn on the "kneel" option so when I park it slams it down to make entry, exit much more convenient and it pops right up as soon as I put it in drive. 100% agree though about the quality of the ride in lower suspension its horrible. I always take mine out of low when on the highway too, I'll gladly suffer the range drop to be comfortable.

All this to say, I trust the Scout team though, they are a fantastic group and trust that they know what we want. If you have not already been to an event with the concepts I highly recommend you go and talk to them in person, and you will see how cool they are, and how they are just as excited about the vehicles as we are and that many will be owners themselves.

I'm a Gen1 Launch Edition R1T owner with the off-road package.

I agree with Scout Lookout, these are things Scout can work on to differentiate itself further from Rivian. Also, I have NEVER had my suspension overheat either - that should be looked at by the SC, b/c that is not normal. You may need some new dampers or lost fluid somewhere. Do you drive around in CONSERVE MODE?

The only time I really lower the ride height on my R1T is to provide easy access for a passenger to enter or to bring the tailgate height down a bit, or if I need to absolutely maximize range on a HWY going in a straight shot. I did a range test on a 200 mile trip and the benefits were negligible compared to what will eventually happen with tire wear in CONSERVE. Why? The ***LOWEST*** ride height creates negative camber. Negative camber changes the angle of the control arms in Rivian's suspension & creates un-even inner tire wear, so downward travel on from the frame through the control arms to the wheels is reduced - this is why ride quality is not as good in the lowest setting in bumpy conditions. Basically, your suspension is already bottomed-out. Not to mention that the truck just drives a lot better when in ALL PURPOSE.

This article explains some of what I have experienced. For the record I drive in ALL PURPOSE mode (or SNOW MODE in the winter) almost all the time: https://www.motortrend.com/features/rivian-r1t-r1s-tire-wear-conserve-mode-opinion.

For Scout, a more "Beefy" suspension will perhaps create a more "truck-like suspension feel" compared to the refined ride that Rivian went for (think lighter loads in the bed of a truck - if you have owned a pick up with a beefy suspension it always drives better under load!), but TBD on final spec's and feel for Scout with their production vehicles.

Rivian's suspension is amazingly well-engineered, but with that comes potentially more expensive repairs or more warranty work when something does go sideways. More moving parts, washers, knuckles, jounce lines, control arms, dampers, hydraulics & compressor issues come along with any air suspension. There are trade-offs for for everything and there are trade-offs for a great ride.

NOTE - There are significant improvements to Rivian's Gen2 subframe & suspension system, which I view as one the biggest (and unseen) improvements to the Gen2's. A Gen2 looks an awful lot like a Gen1, but Rivian did a TON of work on the Gen2's which will also sigificantly reduce SC visits and associated warranty work (saving them a lot of time and $$$). The Gen2 stuff is also retrofittable to Gen1 trucks! (y) (y)

So I searched all of my responses since October 1st which include the one and only response of mine to one of your first posts; it's the one where I typed "Welcome to the community!" Apologies if that was somehow offensive. I try *never* to use all caps as I do understand it's meaning. As far as reading comprehension skills... Well, I'm an old guy, skills fade with age - so I'll give you that one!

Gen 2 without the fancy roof tinting thing. I live in Minnesota, so it's not as hot here as it is in the South, but in the summer, we get 100+ degrees with 75+ dew points. I haven't noticed an issue with the roof making it feel like the surface of the sun. I do like the idea of a shade though and if I'm remembering correctly, I think Scout said they'll have one. It's just not in the prototype.

Yes they have said a shade and it’s just not in the prototype.

A couple comments, the new Mountainside concept is basically the Trail-Ready without a tire carrier and a different tailgate. At the events I attended recently I asked if there was a reason items like the rear wiper and drivers side grab bar weren’t added, as we know those will be added to the production models. The answer I was given is these concepts aren’t made at the factory. Mountainside was made using the molds for the parts for the original concepts as it’s more cost effective and efficient. These are all still hand built concepts with many 3-D printed parts.

Additionally I have been told many times that when we finally see the preproduction and production models we will not notice any big differences between the concepts and those production models. I’m not expecting large changes, which I am very happy about. I love the concepts as is and I hope they stay the way they are.

Hi JDGLN,

Several things in these hand-built concept vehicles haven't been built into them, mostly to reduce complexity and build cost. The production vehicles will be far more complete and will give you a more accurate idea of all the features.

The production vehicles will have a sunshade feature on models with the glass roof (we will offer a fixed steel, glass and cabana roof on the Traveler). We don't have everything finalized yet, but we will have a lot more answers as we get closer to production.
