We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

    Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

Ampernext seems like the solution you’re looking for if you’re looking for mobile DC-DC charging.

They have several options for DC-DC charging, usually expecting 300VDC input, so it would also require a non-standard battery pack.

This example is intended to be mounted in the bed of a truck or in a trailer with a DC battery pack used to provide the energy.

Honestly, I don’t think these are needed for consumers. We can get by with 11.5 to 22 kW (on the Lightnings with an extra onboard charger) charge rate of an AC charger hooked up to an inverter. We really don’t need 50 kW for most of the kinds of off-grid charging we would do. If I were hosting an off-grid event where I knew there would be EVs that needed charging, I’d invest in a few hundred kWh of battery, a trailer with solar panels all over it, and one of the DC-DC 50 kW charging solutions. But that’s not realistic for most use cases.

I definitely thought that Lincoln one was a chunk of battery you could charge from in emergency situations, like the EV equivalent of a 5 gallon Jerry can.

Yeah. The poor-quality reporting/editing in the Electrek article doesn’t help. They were even corrected in the comments, but as of the last time I looked they hadn’t bothered to correct the article.

The writer of the article stated that it would have a battery between 10-20 kWh. When you go to the Lincoln website it is clear what it is Not.

I just had to ask my partner to talk me out of buying a Lighting battery from ebay. $2700 for the entire battery, shipped. That’s just incredible. If even one of the modules can be made to work, that’s ~1/3 the price of a single new module. I just don’t have room for another project until I finish a few dozen.

I hope we took notes from not only VW, but also BMW for factory production. Because BMW has been around a lot longer.

Archery. I’ve been bugging him. Lots of outdoorsy people who love trucks and SUV’s and urban folks who love EV’s. Perfect fan base. Can sponsor the Olympic team since both types of archery will be included in LA in ‘28. And it is year round competition rather than seasonal so more opportunity to get in front of people. And I’m planning a large tournament on SM property but Jamie hasn’t blessed that yet-I’m just DM’ing him with ideas. 😀
