Camping with a Traveler/Terra

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

If I get the Terra I will be putting on a Radica Moonlander X camper shell on it.

They offer extended side pods for 7 foot length queen size bed.

You can also turn the bed into a giant couch or stow it away so you dont lose any bed space.

I kind of like the idea of the Moonlander - but not really the implementation. Looking more at the Traveler. Will build a sleeping platform for it-should have plenty of room to sleep inside.

The Moonlander gets around the abbreviated bed length. But IF I ever do another overlanding pickup - will flat bed it and put on a removable canopy. Would still like to steal from the Moonlander idea and make it wide enough to sleep sideways. I don't really have problems with low roof heights sleeping - so I would want to keep it in line with the cab height.

The standard Moonlander is shorter and doesnt have the cabover section. But I believe it still sits up higher than the cab.

I look forward to seeing whatever you cook up once you get your hands on your Scout!

Took the Lightning camping this past weekend.

I expect to be able to run an 1800 Watt Induction cooktop and an induction kettle. My preference would be that the frunk has 2.4 kW of power (or more) to run camping cookware, etc.

I expect to be able to run a freezer. I like my amenities, including frozen gin and simple syrup and hard-frozen popsicles.

Speaking of the frunk, I want enough space for my kitchen.

I expect to be able to run the vehicle’s AC at full blast while plugged in so I don’t lose battery charge.

And plenty of space for gear.

Most importantly, I expect our public lands to remain public and accessible to everyone.

Camping? My plan would be to trade my truck/trailer for a MH to pull the Scout. The Scout would be the day use vehicle.

Just had a cool idea (at least I think so)! With the bench seat option on the Terra, could you design the front and rear bench seats to fold down into a bed? The combo of this with a rooftop tent would be awesome, not to mention the potential temperature control option in the cabin.

Welcome aboard the SM forum. We always offer suggestions like checking out the search button as it will help you find just about any info you may be looking for. Tons of great info and reasonable speculation over the past 2-1/2 years. Enjoy your time checking things out

There’s been a few similar suggestions but nobody at SM has confirmed it. Would be awesome to have the bench backs fold as you suggested

Turn it into a Queen. Nice idea.

Scout. “People. Connections. Community. Authenticity." Welcome to the Scout community. Enjoy the ride. 🛻 🚙
Remember the built in search on the forums is a great place to start getting answers to your many questions. 😀

I see it has been a minute since people have posted on this thread so I will blow the dust off and add a post. I just went on a camping trip. Just me and my dog. I went down to Anza Borrego Desert State Park. If any of you have seen the movie "One Battle After Another" this is where they filmed the last chase scenes. The weather was perfect (before it gets up to 500 degrees). On the way back up to Los Angeles I stopped by and checked out about 50 or so sculptures out of about 130. They are huge. It was a great trip and I plan to continue to make many trips in my new Traveler when I get it and hopefully we all will post pics of our adventures in our new Traveler and Terra. Rooftop or otherwise.

Something like the Campstream would be nice. It could attach to a designated, active HVAC vent in the Scout with a ducting transition piece that would lead into your tent whether it is on the roof, ground or pickup bed. You could control heating, cooling, and fan speed through your Scout's app. This would be 100% for those who want a few extra creature comforts while camping with their electric vehicle and could also help extend your camping season into the months where things start to either get pretty frigid or sweltering at night

With the roll down rear window this becomes more of an opportunity with the Terra

Great pics and it looks like you treat your canine companion very well
