Scoutsie does Boston, 10/15 & 10/17

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Hi! While I am a year-round resident of the city of Boston, some of you are not. To this point in my life, I had never watched the Head of the Charles and never really planned to do so because I always saw it as something that just caused Memorial Drive to get shut down and made it a pain in the ass to get into Cambridge on the weekend to go see my friends (or to get back into Boston to see my parents back in the days when I lived in Somerville). TL;DR I’m glad that I set my pride and prejudice aside to go check this out because it was pretty cool. It wasn’t people with sweaters tied about their shoulders casting aspersions down their noses from a lofty seating area or any such thing. Really, though, I was just there to check out Scouts and go home, but it wasn’t what I expected it was going to be like at all, and I was glad for that! I also got to meet @J Alynn and @R1TVT (they were kind enough to buy me a beer and some uncooked beef for dinner at a place of quality because I don’t seem to have a parasite, yay!) and some folks from Scout and that was pretty rad. No rides on the venue-provided Scout golf cart, though. Alas. Here are my snaps. Photography is not my talent.

IMG_3754.jpeg

This is the Traveler that almost ran down @J Alynn and made me shed a single tear because it made me feel extremely tiny, just like the family car Scoutsie used to make me feel when I’d look up at it scrambling into the back seat ~40 years ago. It is definitely not missing anything that’s obscured by a clumsily applied sticker of my cat, Dahlia, so never you mind. 👀

Seats. You’ve never seen this shot before.

IMG_3756.jpeg

Back seats. You’ve never seen this one, either.

IMG_3758.jpeg

The goddamn tires were as tall as my goddamn cane and I wanted to make goddamn note of it.

IMG_3759.jpeg

Nothing to see here.

Car butt.

Thus concludes Day 0 photos. Onwards to Day 2, because I chose to be a weenie and oversleep for Day 1.

Love it!

Love the cane by the way and your cat is adorable!

Day 2! We begin the journey with this photo taken in Kenmore Square. CITGO sign proves it.

RIP the Rat. IYKYK.

IMG_3766.jpeg

I wandered around aimlessly a bit after parking and took a Lyft from where I parked (20 minutes away on foot and I realized that I was waaaaaay underdressed for the weather by a full layer of clothing very quickly) and then found the Scout pavilion. Yay! There were a few people there already asking questions even though it was pretty early on Saturday morning and *muddy* as heck after a rainy-ass Friday, so that was pretty cool! Mountainside is gorgeous, as you’ll see from my terrible snapshots.

IMG_3767.jpeg

These guys are super excited about something about the doors, maybe.

IMG_3768.jpeg

I love it when you can see people’s reflections in photos, don’t you? Or secret disembodied heads? The captions write themselves. I am impressed that they threw Michelins on the Mountainside. Mwah! We now use the same tires.

That dude is smiling because I have stolen his soul.

This is a pretty decent Boston skyline and I applaud whoever made it for not making it a super-weird composite of buildings that don’t go together geographically.

I love it - I always get made fun of starting at zero, but that’s just what software folks do…

The materials are so nice on this! I am really smitten with this guy right here.

I wanted a smutty close-up, but since it uses the optical zoom, it’s grainy.

I love the houndstooth and I love the compass and I never want to be parted from either.

I like this a lot. Send it to me, I deserve it.

I think I want this interior with the forest (I mean cooked spinach) green…

Still bummed I can’t find the one with your physical gesture which we won’t note on here!

I was very much of the opinion that I flipped off the camera while you were trying to take a photo, but I could be mistaken. I might have made the rude gesture when you were done. OH WELL, GUESS WE JUST HAVE TO DO THIS AGAIN SOMETIME, WHAT A BUMMER.

I think I want this interior with the forest (I mean cooked spinach) green…
It is such a great interior and the wood is growing on me. To @Scoutsie ’s point, the rear of the front seats is different in all three vehicles for those who haven’t noticed
Rae plastic, inset mounting racks and the leather pockets pointed out above.

It’s so funny, I love the current Terra interior which is also grey and tan, but this grey and tan is too “brown” for me. I just very much want a light colored headliner.
I love it because it’s like a cozy living room was placed inside of a vehicle 365 days a year. For a few months out of the year, this might be a little wooly and unpleasant. That probably means cranking up the air conditioner when the body is especially not regulating heat so well. To me, it reads “I am a posh, drivable teddy bear: climb in!” 🧸

@Scoutsie you may not think you're a photographer, but this is one of my favorite pictures of the Traveler so far (even with Dahlia gracing us with her presence lol) and BTW I mean absolutely no offense @cyure or to your husband for that matter. But the captions are by far the best part :ROFLMAO:
None taken. It’s the Traveler in her natural element!

It’s amazing in the right light how dark the lower “stripe” looks with the sheet metal indent strip just above the sill. Almost comes off looking like the dark graphic on the Porsche Macans. In sunlight it’s subtle but it really shows in this photo. The photo added is from charlotte event inside a warehouse but the lighting helped to cut some of that shadowing

Wow! Thanks! The natural lighting and the setting is pretty nice… snapping a shot of something in the magic hour before the sun sets is also never going to do you wrong, I suppose.

Has anyone heard whether Scout is considering regional test-drive events once the vehicles are further along in development? I'd love to see them return to New England, and I think an event like this would draw a pretty good crowd.

One thing I forgot to ask the Scout reps at the Boston event: Is there a plan to revisit the same regions once there are production-intent, drivable Scouts available for test drives? Has anyone heard anything about a potential timeline?

I still think Central Massachusetts, especially the Worcester area, would be a great location.
508 International in Charlton, MA has off-road tracks that would make for an awesome mini Bronco Off-Roadeo-style event. We could call it the Mud Scout Jamboree!

Let people put the Traveler and Terra through their paces off-road, then take them out on Route 20 or the Mass Pike to see how they handle everyday driving and highway speeds.
Seeing the prototypes in person was great, but getting behind the wheel is a whole different experience. And I'd much rather see what these things can actually do than just look at them sitting on a display.

I don't expect Scout to offer test drives to the public until they have actual production vehicles available. Even production-intent vehicles would be too few/too expensive to make them available to us. So, you are probably looking at mid-2028 before you can get a test drive.

Which really sucks for someone like me. I'm 6'5" tall, so I would prefer to test-drive before buying. But I'm not willing to defer ordering when my reservation comes up, so I will by buying on faith. Hopefully I can get a test-drive before delivery! :D
