Start Up Sound

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I believe it would be really neat to have the startup sound or when the harvester engine kicks in a brief undertone of the famous 756 Farmall tractor diesel 310 motor sound as it starts.
I have no idea what that sounds like but I’m all for fun sounds. I really like the sound of the Barber’s race Terra. That could be fun too!

Just no spaceship sounds, please and thank you.

The sound of the famous 756 German built D310 starting is an awesome tribute to the ag side of the scout ag heritage.
Wasn’t sure if you had seen this video yet. They really do lean into quite a bit of the ag history for sounds.

Welcome to the community!

I'm full BEV but this is a really cool idea, and if there is one thing I have learned about the Scout team is they are really good about incorporating the heritage into these vehicles. I have no doubt there are going to be many awesome surprises still to come from the SM team.

I never understood why EVs and hybrids use the UFO sound in battery mode? The UFO sound isn't something the majority of people recognize subconsciously like an I.C.E.?
I'm assuming you're referring to the pedestrian speaker noise here, but this is one good thing about Rivian is they don't use any of the "UFO sound" its more of like whirling wind sound. However, one thing I love about my truck is under hard acceleration you can hear the motors whine which sounds really cool, needless to say, EV's aren't completely silent and I think some people will be pleasantly surprised when they transition to one for the first time.

As long as we can turn off any "unnecessary" synthetic start up noises, then sure. I could actually see that being useful in certain situations (like kids running around in a driveway near your truck)

One of the best things about the BEV will be how quiet it is to operate though - not noiseless, but can be very quiet.

Yes, agreed with Scout_Lookout on the Rivian implementation for pedestrian awareness - its very much quieter than some of the EV brands noises, which is great. I think it is Toyota or Hyundai (maybe both) both some models make a terrible and annoying noise that is actually a detractor. It's grating and too loud. Hopefully Scout can figure out a pedestrian noise that makes the bare minimum requirement. An EV that is louder than an ICE is not good!

My impression when I watched "The Sound of Scout" video that @cyure linked to above was that the pedestrian awareness noise might be the V8 noise from the old Scout they recorded in the studio. I'd be stoked if that were the case!
I thought about that, then I thought about the brand and making the association between a highly efficient EV and a gas guzzling V8. It would seem odd to me, although I can understand why some might like it and want to harken back to their V8 roots.

For me, I think I would prefer something a little more "understated" or less associated with ICE. Or, at least have a couple of options to choose from as a configuration setting for the owner.

I would prefer not to have the "whine" that some hybrids and stuff have. Those are very annoying. Make it the wind through the cornfield then. Anything that makes it harken back to Scout's roots would be cool.

I'm really interested in seeing what they do with all those sounds. I'd LOVE for the Scout sounds to be like the old Scouts. Blinkers, door handles, locking noise. That would be such an awesome touch.

I think that is the point. iCE vehicles always sound similar so sometimes you naturally tune them out. With a UFO (or angels humming in case of my Accord) is distinct so you think about it for a moment-like what is that?
