We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

    Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

    How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

The fleet of testing mules thus far uses whatever sheet metal remotely fits on our chassis - which isn't much from the VW group. :D

Since we only started stamping Scout sheet metal recently, the existing test mules are all ugly-looking test beds that won't look like a Scout Traveler or Terra. The next batch of test vehicles will start to use Scout sheet metal and look more like the concepts (albeit with camouflage on them).





These diagrams are an approximation of locations. License plate should be offset left on the swing arm.
That makes me really glad I changed my personalized plate.

Both my kids have Hyundais and the dealer near us is actually pretty decent. They don’t add a bunch of stuff to the cars that you don’t want and when they do a dealer markup it’s $1,000. Could be worse.

I know, it’s the Throttle House guys right. I like those two.
Throttle House guys are taking over The Grand Tour. Top Gear is also coming back. Easy mistake.

I went by a VW Group R&D facility today and saw a Ford Explorer parked where they normally park electrified mules behind a fence. Are you saying that could have actually been a Scout mule?

Not nearly wide enough or long enough. Maybe something on the commercial side of the fence might work. They usually have the top from one thing, the hood from another, fenders stretched and flared, and everything sitting awkwardly on top of the frame. All that will change in the next few months. Then we can start telling the development story...

Do you guys add some bits and pieces of the tech you have designed in the car as well or are they running off of monitors with a Frankenstein interior.

The technical bits are all there for testing purposes, but it isn't very pretty. Doesn't need to be. Function over form as wiring, computers, gear and more get swapped out regularly.
 
My F250 can hit about 500 miles on a tank on a good day, till I strap a trailer behind it (then it is closer to 350). And honestly, I am a lot more picky when I am towing that trailer and have to fill up. It is a nightmare at some gas stations with 30' of trailer behind you.

With an EV, if you are starting at 350 miles in theory, get 260 real world, then a hair over 100 with a trailer - it is a bit different.
I think the really high mileage ranges we salivate over are planned for this reason, to get more mileage per charge while towing than current EVs get without towing. Once that’s the case, EVs will be preferred over ice.

Let's be honest. I think this conversation needs a refresher on truck weights and towing. Scout isn't building 3/4 or 1 ton series vehicles. Those vehicles are optimized for towing heavier loads, handling higher tongue weights and they behave much better than 1/2 tons that are at capacity. If you want to tow long distances (and do so more safely and efficiently with larger loads and higher tongue weights) you shouldn't be shopping a Scout or a 1/2 ton truck. I would still be shopping a diesel 3/4 or 1 ton.

Don't misconstrue this for meaning that EV's are bad for towing, because that is not the case at all - especially for occasional towing, lighter payloads, local towing, etc. When I tow a boat or trailer behind my R1T, I can't even tell its there.

When your primary use case IS TOWING and that towing requires longer distances with heavier payloads, you should probably consider bumping into the 2500-3500 class truck, IMHO, and that is NOT what Scout is building.

Overview of Truck Classes:
    • 1/2-Ton (1500 series): Light-duty trucks like the Ram 1500 or Chevy Silverado 1500 (Class 2A: 6,001–8,500 lbs GVWR).
    • 3/4-Ton (2500 series): Heavy-duty trucks like the Ram 2500 or Chevy Silverado 2500 (Class 2B: 8,501–10,000 lbs GVWR).
    • 1-Ton (3500 series): Maximum-duty single or dual-rear-wheel trucks (Class 3: 10,001–14,000 lbs GVWR).

It would be like someone complaining that a Toyota Corolla can’t tow a 7500 pound trailer. Yeah. You don’t buy a Corolla to tow a trailer. You buy a vehicle that can safely manage the load you need it to manage.
