Trim names…

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Hi All…

We have been talking some today about trims and the base trim. I think that calling that trim “base” gives it a negative connotation. After all it’s a $60,000 vehicle. It should be nicely appointed at that price.

So what do you all think the trim levels should be called. Everyone has limited and platinum and XRT etc. Our Scouts need something different. So throw your name ideas below.

Hmmm.

So, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you don't want to have the lowest cost model be called "Peasant"? or "Plebian"?

This question makes my brain hurt because we deal with this on many options on new homes and making crap up that is unique, sounds different but is appealing is hard to do. I’m back to ….
Level 1, level 2,…..
What about road warrior, trail hound, nature’s escape and other nonsense

See you do this for a living. You should be really good at it.

Base model, simple, functional- Boomer
Upgraded model, more frills, but they still make sense- GenX
Top model, all of the above options, plus stupid features that nobody else wanted or asked for, like vent controls via a touchscreen- Y/Z
I feel oddly ok that Millenial got left out there. Is this what GenX has always felt like? LOL

**Edited to add: No... this is what my middle sister feels like, right!?

I didn't want to offend the millennials, so I just called it generation Y and grouped it with Z, knowing they wouldn't get it. :ROFLMAO:

The hard part here is, as J says, finding things that are interesting, and unique, and... not going to make people who buy the peasant version feel like they're being slighted.

You could do mountaineering sorts of names like mentioned. Thats outdoorsy, and on brand.

Trailhead, Base Camp, Summit.

But "Base camp" could be confusing, as it easily could be a "base" trim, or a middle trim.

You could also easily lean into actual Scouting names (ranks):

Tenderfoot, 2nd class, 1st class, Star, Life, Eagle

But, that might run afoul of the actual BSA/Scouting organizations legal stuff. Plus, I don't think "Tenderfoot" would make people buying the low trim feel warm and fuzzy about their purchase. I could see "Eagle" being used, that sounds close enough to some other brands trims (Chevys "Bison" models).

Could also do animal names, or... mountain range names or something.

But all of these are... a bit confusing. They all have more character/charm than other brands XLT/whatever... but its sort of just moving the problem around.

I think the only problem I would have with them leaning into the outdoorsy names as you mentioned is that a lot of other brands are already doing that type of thing, you know? Not as unique. Not that it's bad, just not unique enough to me.

Plus, I mean. Not all outdoorsy stuff/people live near mountains...

And then, even if you do something different than that, if you put a hierarchy on it, it implies some of the things that are bottom of it, are somehow worse.

So like... you could do things like: Plains, Forest, Mountain, Glacier, Valley, Canyon... Fjord (:P).

But... is... plains the worst? Way to offend everyone who lives in the plains :/.
