Scout delayed??

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I routinely deal with 2 auto shops - both have told me they will not work on an EV. That said, for the most part they don't even want to touch my VW Golf TDI - apparently there is a old wives tail that it will kill their diagnostic computers. I have not talked with the local tire shop yet. They work on virtually anything with tires (I even saw someone bring in a bicycle) - so I am hopeful. I have seen them regularly work on ATV's, SxS's. trailers - even heavy equipment.
Having driven Teslas for 16 years now, I have never had an issue with tire shops. The quirk I have had was one shop couldn't do an alignment because they didn't have the right software on their alignment machine. My guess is that they were trying to save money by not paying for the latest database (my Model X was quite new at the time).

Otherwise I do my own work but let's face it, almost nothing to do on EVs. I changed the brake pads and rotors on my Roadster to get something a little more aggressive. Side note: an early problem with EVs and brake pads is that you never used the brakes and then you would suddenly NEED the brakes and they would be cold. Many of us moved to an autocross pad [CarboTech] which is made to work when cold but also handle heat. But this was back in the dar ages and the OEM pads are good now.

Wow a Tesla owner for 16 years and a Roadster too? You are an EV OG for real! I gotta know will you be getting the new Roadster?

Thanks. Yeah, Roadster #1098 in 2010. Wife Model S P85 in 2012. Wife upgraded to Model S 100D in 2018. Sold my Roadster in late 2021 for a Model X Plaid (needed to be able to haul kids around and the Plaid is just ridiculous). I am interested in the new Roadster but have not put any money down - I had a bunch of irons in the fire at the time so I held off. Now I'm glad I did. I know some folks that plunked down the full $250k in 2017!

I am also disappointed in where Tesla is going with their utter disgust for any physical controls. It makes sense as they/Elon truly think the cars will drive themselves so why have controls? But I like driving. Why buy a car w/ 1,000+ hp to let the car drive itself? That's why I'm interested in Scout. I love that they are focusing on balancing the physical and virtual. I also think GM is doing the right stuff and am looking at an Equinox EV for my son. Once the Roadster actually comes out I will definitely take a look.

This reminds me, not exactly the same vein, but isn't there a guy that made a sports car, but believes ownership of cars won't be a thing in few years, and people will just borrow a car when they need it. I assume that anticipates the car can be ordered and "deliver" itself

Says Production Traveler September ‘28
And production Terra September ‘29
Yes this popped up in extra extra but the date in that video for the Terra was March of 2030. Who knows at this point.

Unless and until it comes from SM directly I’m not going to worry about it. Whenever I can order my Traveler I’m ordering it. I’m in this for the long haul whatever that means.

Faith and patience.

So attempting to put this into perspective, scout has nearly 200,000 reservations (a fairly significant number will not convert to orders) around 80% of that number are for the traveler. Realistically speaking the only way that you can propose dates like that is assuming that every reservation will convert to a pre-order and that scout will only do traveler until they have finished all traveler orders and then do Terra until they have finished all Terra orders before opening the doors to manufacture vehicles and start building a stock to sell to a More interested but unsure public

yikes..... another delay article posted.....

I'm holding strong to what Jamie has stated, but a lot of bad press seems to be coming up quite frequently.

I swear they are all just AI articles. It picks up bad info from one and it spreads like that game of telephone with more and more bad info sprinkled in.

Here’s the thing I know with 100% certainty. SM wants to sell us all Scouts. If they could sell us all one tomorrow they would. They are all working very hard to get our trucks to market. I’m holding onto that.

Don't blame AI, this is just as likely being manipulated by VW dealer groups. Don't forget that they're incredibly well-funded and will do anything to protect their own. They'd rather sink an entire new brand than have their syndicate put in jeopardy.

This tells me all I need to know. When an author uses terms like “long ass time” and expects to be taken seriously I laugh. This whole article is poorly written by somebody trying to get attention. Try again bud. Maybe write your own stuff, and use less AI!

“The Traveler SUV's start-of-production date has been pushed back to September 1, 2028, while the Terra pickup apparently won't enter production until March 1, 2030. That is a long-ass time from now.”

Hopefully Jamie is the one to believe in this situation. However if any of it is true scout needs to get ahead of the narrative and make a public statement. Because IF it were true, the longer they wait to be forthcoming the more likely it is to have a negative impact from reservation holders, especially those with more interest in the Terra

Also, those dates are very suspicious. The 1st of the month for each start date. I’m sorry. I just don’t buy it.

I just asked Google Gemini to write me an article about Scout being delayed. It spit this out. Proof that anybody can do this. It literally took less than 30 seconds.

Scout Motors: The Long Road to Revival Just Got Longer

The highly anticipated return of the Scout Motors brand—the rugged, off-road icon reborn under the Volkswagen Group—is facing a series of significant schedule shifts. While the company maintains it is moving "full steam ahead," new reports and official statements suggest that reservation holders will need to pack a bit more patience alongside their camping gear.

The New Timeline: 2028 and Beyond

Originally, Scout Motors aimed for production to begin in 2026, a target that was later moved to late 2027. However, as of April 2026, a clearer—and longer—timeline has emerged:

  • Scout Traveler (SUV): Initial validation vehicles are expected to begin rolling off the line in 2026, but full production has reportedly been pushed to late 2028.
  • Scout Terra (Pickup): The wait for the truck appears even more substantial. Recent industry reports suggest the Terra may not enter full production until early 2030, potentially a six-year wait from its initial prototype debut.

Why the Delays?

Building a car company from scratch is an immense "plate-spinning" act, as Scout leadership has described it. Several factors are contributing to the extended rollout:

  1. Prioritizing the "Harvester": In a surprise shift, Scout revealed that over 85% of reservations are for the Harvester™ EREV (Extended-Range Electric Vehicle)—the model featuring a small gas engine used as a generator. Because the EREV requires complex additional systems for cooling, exhaust, and fuel, the engineering workload has increased significantly compared to a pure EV.
  2. Software and Architecture: Scout is partnering with Rivian for its zonal electrical architecture. Integrating this advanced software into a rugged, body-on-frame platform that also accommodates a gas range-extender has proven technically challenging.
  3. The Blythewood Factory: While the $2 billion production center in Blythewood, South Carolina, is making rapid progress—with over 700 robots being installed and the main assembly building enclosed—hiring and training 4,000 employees to "automotive grade" takes time.

A "Magical Moment" Amidst the Wait

Despite the delays, Scout CEO Scott Keogh remains optimistic, recently touring the South Carolina site and calling the physical progress of the factory a "magical moment." The company is currently focused on "validation vehicles"—early builds used for crash testing, extreme weather trials, and fine-tuning before the public ever gets a key.

"As with any ambitious project of this scale, there will be changes, but we are focused on delivering for the American consumer." — Scout Motors Statement

What This Means for Reservation Holders

If you have a $100 deposit down, your spot in line remains secure. Scout has been transparent about the fact that they would rather "get it right than get it fast," specifically focusing on the rugged durability that made the original International Harvester Scout a legend.

For now, the Traveler remains the priority, with the first deliveries likely occurring in the back half of 2028. The Terra pickup, while still a core part of the mission, looks to be the "long-game" project of the decade.
