From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.
Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.
How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

My last one was a 2015 Passat SE 6MT TDI. Truly a rare bird. Think it was the last year you could get a manual transmission in the Passat.
I skipped all the retune/recall jazz and threw a Turbo Man Hybrid turbo on there with a Stage II clutch and a Malone tune. It was an absolute riot.
Malone Tuning is awesome because he only does clean tunes and leaves all the factory safety parameters. If you ever retune it that is the way to go. He also does tunes for vehicles that still have their emission equipment intact.
In terms of LII+, we should consider that the tactile, hands-on and connected driving experience for Scouts is important for certain key aspects of driving - things like off-roading, rock crawling, windy country gravel roads, oversand on the beach, working around the farm or yard, etc.
But driving boring, straight, or arduous sections of HWY over longer distances simply to get from point A to point B safely (for example) are different. Also, Scout isn't a purely dedicated off-roader, and will be driven millions of more HWY miles than on dirt, if we are being honest... LII+ can be an excellent feature to reduce or relieve driver fatigue AND can be more safe than trying to multi-task or stuff your face with a burrito while you go in a straight line. The tech can be excellent depending upon implementation, and based on what I have seen from many distracted and inattentive drivers on the highway, LII+ will work better than some humans. it's also important to keep in mind that you are not relinquishing full control of the vehicle - you must remain attentive while using LII+.
At this stage in the game, Scout would likely be handicapping themselves for not accommodating LII+ (simply due to the potential for lost sales VS. competitive offerings.) Whether you choose to use it or not is up to you.
While true some newer vehicles are overly tech-ladden, Scout is providing the best of both worlds to us. Scout doesn't need to paint itself into a corner with this.

LII+ is the right level of automation in a vehicle at this point.
I’ll happily wait for more extreme automation until the underlying software technology is improved substantially and LIDAR or LIDAR-like systems are improved to the point that they can be integrated into the front, rear, and sides of a vehicle without a massive spinning machine on top like Waymo has.

Another technology that’s not good enough for me to replace the simple tech that was there before.
Mirrors operate at light speed.
Cameras and screens are slow enough that they can fail during the most important times: high speeds when you need to see something as close to instantly as possible. And mirrors allow you to adjust the field of view based on slight head movements. Cameras only provide a single field of view, no matter how you move. Inferior technology but because it’s new, it’s become a fad.
In theory yeah but I can’t imagine myself driving a passenger vehicle without some form of rear window/glass area. But hey-guessing it will be $90k or more so I’ll be broke from the Scout purchase and won’t have to worry about it
