Car seats

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

This is a long stretch, but how about convertible, booster, and carrier car seats made specifically for the scout with the added feature of being heated and cooled. I always thought it was a waste of a useful feature with a car seat sitting there.

My wife is a car seat technician, I'll ask her opinion on this. I like the idea of "Junior Scouts" but I assume there's a good reason automakers don't typically delve into child seats.

If you're looking for a great (if expensive) car seat then I know the Foonf by Clek is amazing. We had two of them and they grow with the kid from infant all the way until you switch to a booster.

We are using the Britax car seat for my two children. I just thought about it this morning while dropping them off at the bus stop. With my daughter always getting cold very easily and my son being the polar opposite, I thought it would be good for them to enjoy a little luxury on their little butts.

Maybe your wife could add her suggestions that they need to add a tether anchor to the middle 2nd row seat (I didn’t see one currently) as well as lower anchors to the outboard seats in the 2nd row :) this would ensure the traveler would be a front runner for families looking at a new vehicle!

Great suggestion. Just FYI the concepts are hand built with lots of 3D parts. They aren’t even pre-production models yet. When I asked at Nats they said they 85% of what they will be at production. So still some changes to be made.

We all are putting in our wishes for what we want those 15% of changes to be.

I’m sure there will be tethers for car seats. At this price point it’s almost mandatory. I wonder nowadays if they are part of the safety rating process so almost has to include it
I would think they would be mandatory. But it’s still good to ask.

Typically, the safest spot to install a child seat is in the center position of the rear seat. That positions the child farthest from danger in an impact. Unfortunately, most vehicles don't equip their vehicles with lower anchors in the center seats. It would be great if Scout could make vehicles that are the safest possible for all occupants.

With few exceptions, anchors for three rear seating positions are required by National safety standards.

One of those exceptions is for weight > 8500 pounds, which seems like it needs to be updated now that manufacturers are building more and more massive passenger vehicles.

Three sets of lower anchors would be a family car dream!

@SpaceEVDriver @dreamweaver @cyure @J Alynn dont forget to “vote” for our car seat tether anchor suggestion
Here’s where you do that:

I’m not sure I would want Scout to spend development time/energy/money on specifically developing new car seats—they’re not experts in child seat design. This sounds like a great aftermarket option. Or, if Scout includes heated/cooled seats for the rear passenger, you might get the benefits just by setting seat one to warm and seat two to cool.

Oh gosh so sorry I meant to vote for our convo about having the tether anchors and lower anchors! Didn’t realize all our chatter was under this random car seat suggestion “thread”. But there is another car seat anchor thread that we can “vote” on that’s same info as we were discussing

The way manufacturers comply with the three seating position mandate is by showing that two anchor points, one from each outside seat can be used to anchor a middle seat. The mandate does not specify that it has to be three positions simultaneously. Without separate anchors for each seat anchoring three seats would exceed weight limits on the anchors and be dangerous for occupants in a crash.

This is correct.
I apologize that my language was imprecise.

There are three top tethers required in the rear seat. IF the owner purchases a carseat with the proper design to use a lap belt, the middle seat can still include a car seat even while the side seats are using the LATCH system. But the owner needs to do their due diligence to get the right kind of car seat that is allowed to use the lap belt and seats their child safely and properly.
