Blindspot Mirrors in Sideview Mirrors!

Hello Scout Motors THAT READS Every Suggestion!
(And seriously considers them!)

I would Suggest that Scout put Blindspot mirrors in their side view mirrors. I add them to every car. They are really cheap if added during the factory build.

My daughters have said they have saved them countless times from a collision. (I know they should turn and look but they don’t!)

I would still make the blind spot cameras with display in the dash available. However, you’re not always looking toward the dash when turning or changing lanes and I like to look in the mirrors before I signal to change lanes.

Make us pay extra for the camera view but include the cheap ‘analogue’ blind spot mirror as part of the factory build, please!

Now, about Towing with the Harvester, Dashcams (with Telephoto and cloud service) and HUD and ADBs……….

I’m just curious why you would need something in addition to that. Is this a problem when towing?

The system you mention is based on Radar your car produces to reflect off the car in your blind spot. I have it in 2 of our five cars.

I think it’s Great! I like the way Audi does it with large indicator lights in the inner housing of my side mirrors. I can see them well in my peripheral vision.

The only time these aren’t as helpful is if a car changes lanes quickly or comes up fast. They still come on but seeing something happening, at least in my opinion, is better then a light and a beep.

I think the side view mirror and automatic blind spot detection system are complimentary underway.

Also, when maneuvering at low speed the light and beep don’t really help compared to seeing what’s in your blind spot before you hit it.

Some car’s indicators are so small, I can’t see them in my peripheral vision. I obviously see them if I look directly at the mirror.

I’m all for anything that increases safety. An added mirror costs Pennie’s during factory build. The BSM (Blind Spot Monitoring System) costs multiples more and can go bad. Mirrors could too but maybe $4 for a pair of blind spot mirrors at your favorite auto supply. Fixing the BSM out of warranty would be quite a bit more.

Respectfully if you set your mirrors correctly there should be no blind spots. If towing those are great to handle the trailer, etc… but after attending BMW driving and being taught how to set mirrors I’ve never had a blind spot since. It’s not a criticism but rather a recommendation if you search YouTube I’m sure there are videos but it really is amazing that you can drive with no blind spots using just rear and side mirrors.

As long as they are optional. My father in law has this setup on his truck and when I borrowed it I actually found it distracting from just having the normal type of mirror. I can usually get a pretty good setup to not need something like this. Perhaps different if towing but if you have the option either way then that’s fine.

I've attended all courses from the BMW driving school too and I set my mirrors like that but I'm not always planted in the seat one way. Additoinally, my daughters and wife never set their mirrors properly. They're always looking at the side of the car. I think there are definitely blind spots, even with them set correctly. To rid yourself of the blind spots, you have to turn just a bit, even when set correctly, in my opinion.

I have never had mirrors like that on a vehicle. Honestly I thought it was a truck thing. Personally I would not be interested in mirrors like that, but if it’s something helpful for people who tow I would see the benefit of having it as an option.

I think I’d probably get used to it eventually, I just see both angles at the same time and it just feels weird and difficult to figure out distances and where everything actually is. Probably just because I’m not used to it at all.

doesn't Genisis have a blindspot camera that shows on the dashboard???...great idea, and I love the rearview mirror camera so when you truck is full you can switch to the camera to see out the back....ok Scout better get busy, cant wait much longer, my 1978 SSII needs a brother...

Not sure about Genesis but I know some Hyundais do. Test drove a Santa Cruz and when you turn a little circular video shows up on the dash and it shows what’s next to the front tire. It was helpful.

Rivian has an amber mirror light that will illuminate like most cars these days, and you can enable a BLIS tone, which will alert you NOT to change lanes, which I have found to be helpful for those quick lane changers.

ALSO - If you put your blinker on to change lanes, the camera in your mirror pops opens a window on the dash (in front of the driver) to show you what is in the lane also...

In the first screen shot, you see what is in the right lane on the right side b/c the driver elected to turn on a right blinker. The second screen shot shows what is on the left side of the screen, if using your left blinker:

For whatever it’s worth, there’s actually a way that you can adjust your mirrors to see your blindspot. It costs zero dollars and it really works. I’ve been using this method for years.

I agree but cams and mirrors give you a little bit more view.

Towing mirrors for the win-usually. That said, they did not save me yesterday. Taking my daughter on a sleep over. She got in my truck, realized she forgot something and ran in the house. I decided to turn the truck around to make a faster get away. When I was almost through turning around, I looked back - she had taken her bag out with her and set it besides the truck (under the side view mirror). I don't think I completely ran over it - but RIP Iphone. Will tally the rest of the damage tonight or tomorrow.
