Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Another article on this Slate vehicle. Transformer like?

It’s still ugly. I’m also betting the wrap -in part-was to cover the back pieces they added that probably aren’t finished so quick was to make it look legit even though I bet it’s just 3-d printed and probably not structural. Maybe all the folks demanding 2-door electric trucks can buy these 😀

Is there a reason it needs to be locked. It’s not like people can steal your electricity, right? Is there something this non-EV owner isn’t considering?
The port door also covers 3 regular outlets, so if those aren’t locked out someone could steal your electricity. It should be pretty straightforward to control access with software, edge if your car is off, ne electricity, but it it’s not out of the question that you’d want that locked down at times.

Great point

I would say so. But good lord. I think seeing it in legit colors actually make it look worse than in the full body wrap. Proportions look like a first year design school solution

Yeah gotta say Slate is missing it in the looks category but maybe it will be "cheap" enough we'll see them pop up around the place. Heck the Cybertruck looks hideous and I've seen a couple near me.

Oh god a modular car.

This sounds like it would be super easy to design and test around. Yes I love engineering modular things
Top of the b pillar seems like it might be a spot of modularity? The truck seems to have a rectangle across its b pillar but the Sport top and the Full top lap over that section. I think their definitely going to try and shove a second row in those two models or at least make it seem like a possibility.

California New Car Dealers Association sues Scout and VW Group over direct sales (April 22, 2025)

The lawsuit says Scout’s direct-to-consumer model violates a California law that was amended and took effect Jan. 1, 2024. The dealer association considers Scout, wholly owned by Volkswagen AG, to be an affiliate brand of VW. The amended law requires affiliated brands to use franchises to sell and service vehicles, the lawsuit says.

“Thus, Scout Motors could sell its vehicles in California as long as it used new or existing VW-affiliated franchisees to sell those vehicles,” it says.

VW dealers in California are “deprived of the opportunity to sell highly desirable Scout Motors vehicles,” the lawsuit says.

“Volkswagen can’t pick and choose which vehicles to sell on its own or through its franchised dealer network, reserving the most profitable or desirable vehicles for itself,” California New Car Dealers Association President Brian Maas said in an April 22 statement. “Illegal competition will harm not only dealers but also the communities and car buyers that they serve"

Does this mean I can finally buy a Lamborghini from a VW dealership?

Scout has been working on their product for several years, with the backing of one of the worlds largest vehicle group. We might have reservations that Scout will hit their production timeline - but I seriously doubt Slate will have a vehicle for sale anytime soon. Still waiting on the Apple EV... (the Canoe, the Elio, the Lit..., then there are the ones that made limited production and crashed and burned afterwards).

Startup car companies tend to have a rather unimpressive track record.

So funny the dealers association claim they act in the best interest of customers when we have had decades of shady tactics, massive markups during Covid completely price gouging, making people nervous about getting ripped off. I sincerely hope they become a thing of the past and direct to consumer becomes the future.
Glad they admit Scout is among the most desirable vehicles though!
