wiring access port on roof rack

We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

While many vehicles will remain in their "stock" configuration, I would expect a fair percentage will get aftermarket accessories installed. One of the challenges to any aftermarket accessory is routing the wiring, and specifically the wiring access. It doesn't matter if it's an antenna cable or a power lead, getting that cable through the body panel to a useful location requires a mix of luck and skill: is there access close to where I need it, and can I get the wire/connector through the access.

I would like to see some way to route 12v power and coax (antenna) cable through the roof rack (or similar) in to the interior of the body. I wince every time I think I need to drill a hole through a body panel to route a cable.

Always thought they should stamp a dime sized dot to thin the metal to make drilling easier and locate the perfect spot to hit. I’m sure manufacturers don’t want to add a hole in manufacturing to avoid moisture/rust/leaks but at least an obvious mark and internal alignment would go a long way and nobody really sees it. I mean-stamp it with the Scout ‘S’ as a birth mark but also as a spot identification

I like what you're proposing here, and it could make for multiple access points without compromising panel integrity. I'd like the see the access be under the footprint of the stock roof rack since (I assume) the majority of devices that would need a wire are going to be attached to the roof rack. Having "S" branded rubber plugs and cable grommets available would be nice, but I expect I could print those with TPU for my use case.

I would request a wire chase and some usb-c outlets at the center of the dash to route antenna cables and utilize the mounting bar for comms, tablet or dash cam. Would also be nice to have a clean route for 12v to the bed of the Terra for overland fridges, camper/canopy lighting, etc.

Considering they are likely to offer this, your idea should be expected. .

Since this section includes an upvote function for ideas, you might want to start your own thread with this suggestion.

I know Scout said they would have USB-C outlets in the area of the center dash bar for the inevitable devices mounted there, so that suggestion probably isn't necessary. But, the wire chase from that location to the roof rack is a great suggestion. It would get an upvote from me! :D I'm sure other folks would appreciate that and would upvote it as well.

As for "a clean route for 12v", wouldn't it make more sense to just request a 12v outlet in the bed of the Terra? There has been speculation here about what sort of power and lighting will be available in the bed of the Terra and the back of the Traveler. At this time we don't have details on any of that, so any suggestions you have about adding a specific type of outlet would be welcome I'm sure.

Welcome to the community. There are indeed ports under there. They are on the back side of the dash as you requested but are very hard to see.

Any outlet would be a good start, but for larger loads like fans, dc-dc chargers or fridges that you might find in a camper setup might require 50A and larger gauge wire.

Was at the Scout Motors booth at the Head Of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge MA today. Chatted with one of the people involved with the development of the exterior. I asked him about the roof rack. He said there are 6 mounting point with grommet covers from the factory to accept their roof racks or after market racks. The back left corner mount will have a wiring harness to connect to for things like tents, accessory lights etc.
The team seams super excited and genuinely happy to talk to the public about ideas/ suggestions to make the trucks better and he said they will continue to improve and adding ideas to the trucks.
I also asked about having an on board compressor. He said nothing is confirmed yet but they are looking into it. I suggested at least including mounting points and a wire harness so it could be added latter. He nodded in agreement but was not privy to that aspect of development for the trucks.
I asked if all the buttons and switches on the dash were going to have lights. He was not sure. I asked if there would be a USBC on the back of the headrest. He said he does not think so. Just down by the vents between the front seats.
Asked if the rear seats will be heated. He was not sure but did not think so
Is the steering wheel or side mirrors heated? Yes.
Told him about the Evotrex EREV travel trailer. which I think would be the ultimate combo with the Scout EREV trucks.

The original reveal event listed rear seats as heated and cooled-FYI. I suspect they will be heated standard and cooled as option. But it was definitely in the reveal literature 2 years ago
