What feature(s) do you hope that Scout does NOT include?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Start/stop button, certainly not needed on the full EV version (don't know if it's really needed for the Harvester or not). Should just turn on when the door opens and be ready to drive when brake pedal is depressed and put in drive.
I agree. The Start/Stop Button is a holdover from the ICE age. An EV doesn’t have a starter, so there’s nothing to start, right? So, it stands to reason that the concept of “starting” a car doesn’t really apply to EVs.

I’m an EV novice. I hadn’t even considered that. I’m learning new things everyday.

The start/stop is to make the human be more interactive whit the vehicle and to not rely on AI or heavily worked software. Allow the driver to learn their vehicle.

It just looks for the brake pedal to be pushed in most instances, nothing to fancy. Even ICE vehicles look for this.

They had a key fob in the Scout reveal didn’t they? If there’s a key fob would there be a start/stop button or would the fob just need to be in the car for it to “turn on”?

ICE vehicles use the brake for an ignition lock. Not to start the car. All pushing the brake on a car does it make it begin to look for a key fob signal. Probably the same way Scout is going to do it.

Even early Tesla's had a Start Stop.

Yes. I was just saying EV & ICE both look for brake pedal push. Not what they do with the information is the same. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

That's a very good question. Personally I like the latter as long as they also have some kind of keyless entry system. If I have a fob I don't want to fish it out of my pocket just to unlock the door.

Here probably why they are putting a Start Stop in the vehicles is due to the contactors.
You know ICE vehicle drivers already know with fob on them, pocket or purse all they need to do is press Start/Stop then press the brake pedal to put the vehicle in gear. Let's just eliminate the extra step of pushing a button before hand. I believe there are a few manufacturers that have eliminated the Start/Stop, including Rivian.

My 2013 uses a regular key. I have a lanyard around my neck with that key on it whenever I go. I’ll just be happy not to have to do that anymore.

My wife bought herself a budget friendly 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid and it has a key, drives me crazy.

Im a physical touch person. I like knowing how my car is responding. Might as well remove the brake to skip that step too. Along with the accelerator pedal.

Many vehicle manufacturers have implemented an automatic park feature that engages when the driver unbuckles their seatbelt or opens the door while the vehicle is not in park. I understand some manufacturers had some roll away problems way back when. But, not a fan.

Our ID.4 is touchless. Get in car, sit down in seat, depress brake, and car turns on. For redundancy they do have a start/stop button but that's really in the event you want it on without actually sitting in the seat/etc. The only point of contention I have on it is when you're parking in a tight spot and slightly stand up in the seat to get a better view of the curb or whatever it'll slam it in park and stop you right there.
