I retired in 2023 after the writers strike and the actors strike. Hollywood was hurting that whole year. I worked the camera for television shows mainly. I did some 2nd AD work as well. My last gig was "Better Call Saul". For full feature films I was in Post production working in Rotoscoping, Digital Coordinator and finally VFX Director for various projects.

Wow- sounds like a cool job!Wow a lot of cool careers here. I bounced around in retail jobs for a few years out of college after studying music and 3d art/animation and deciding on both fronts I’d rather keep them as hobbies than turn them into work and end up hating them. So, passions first - 40 year ‘amateur’ classical pianist and composer and avid model builder. My fav from-scratch builds are the 1/3 scale TARDIS i built to house my wife’s computer and my same-as-the-film-scale Sandcrawler I built to house my own computer, and my 4’ star destroyer model that was my first scratch build back in 1995 that I still have, hanging over the sandcrawler. Not to mention many plastic airplane kits ranging from WWI to present. I come by these passions honestly, my great-grandfather was both a rocket scientist (chemical engineer, worked on Titans) and a Beethoven-centric musicologist, and two of my uncles are ex fighter pilots and now retired airline pilots.
As for work, for the last 14 1/2 years I’ve worked for the Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau in California, which oversees and administers the workers’ compensation system in the state. My main function has been as a field inspector and auditor, inspecting literally thousands of businesses ranging from small mom and pop shops all the way up to Disney, Comcast/NBC/Universal and Boeing (got to see how they build satellites, super cool). And across every industry - retail/wholesale, logistics, film production, restaurants, hotels, mining/quarrying, manufacturing, entertainment, agriculture (wineries and breweries are the best lol…slaughterhouses not so much…), aerospace, military/defense contractors (been to Vandenberg AFB/SFB multiple times as well as Pt. Mugu, Fort Irwin, China Lake Naval Air Station, Edward’s AFB, etc.). There are only about 20 people in the state who do what I do. Since the pandemic I moved more to an office support role but I insisted on keeping field work as a part of my job. I only get out one or two days a month now but still love it.
My job has taken me literally all over the state, from the southern border through the LA/Orange county areas, Riverside and Imperial counties, Ventura county where I live, up the central coast (San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Pismo Beach, etc.), eastern Sierra Nevada (Mammoth Lakes and Bishop), Death Valley, Central Valley, San Francisco, etc etc. I’ve driven Highway 1 from SoCal all the way to Carmel and have found innumerable backroads, and discovered one of my true happy places in the Carrizo Plain National Monument. Especially during wildflower season. Another fav drive is the stretch of Highway 33 from Highway 166 south down into Ojai, and, when the road is repaired again someday, driving Nacimiento-Ferguson Rd from Highway 1 east out to 101.
It’s really this job that made me realize how much I love backroads, solitude, and off-roading which, coupled with buying a Mach-E a year and a half ago and loving electric cars, is what led me here and putting in a reservation for a harvester Traveler. To say I’m chomping at the bit to spend money I hope I’ll have in a couple years would be severely understating things
