Scout Traveler/Terra RC Rock Crawler?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

This is a bit more lighthearted. But the thought occurred to me, and gave me enough of a giggle that I had to suggest it.

I've got two children, and have more than a bit of kid left in me (ask my wife).

A dumb/fun idea, would be to offer a Scout Traveler/Terra RC Crawler body. For those that don't know, there is already a licensed Scout RC Rock Crawler (has existed for a few years now). So it might not be too hard to offer a different body modeled after the prototypes, and get them out there/on the store.

Here is a version of the current one (there are actually 2 now. The Gen 8 scout II model here, and then a Gen9 that uses the Scout 800 body).

Imagine going to the trailhead, going camping in your Scout, and busting out a little 1/10 scale version to tootle around the campsite with your kiddo (or just do it yourself). It would be like "Scout Inception". Where my son can drive his Scout, while I drive the big one. Or (ahem) I can play with it while waiting years for the real one :).

Also, this would make the basis for a pretty excellent commercial/advertisement for Scout.

"Close up shots of the Scout, then interior. And then shots of a father and son as they share the joy of the trip to their remote camping location. Camera cuts to the outside as they unload/setup camp, and then the son gets out their scout and re-creates the experience, at scale. And then the narrator says something like 'this is how scouts are made' or 'like father like son'".

    (or something :p).

As silly as it sounds... it definitely does drive some engagement.

My son has a silly hot wheels car (a remote controlled 1/64 car, meant to be driven on the tracks, sort of like the old wind up cars in the 80's). And the only version that was available at the time we got it for him, was a CyberTruck.

And so the first time my family saw one, my son was like "HEY, I HAVE THAT CAR DAD".

So, the marketing works, to an extent.

Haha, the first reaction my son had to the Cybertruck was during a parade where he yell's "Did you plug it in today"?-He's 3. It's amazing what they absorb.

I’ve had my eye on those RC Scouts, but my money has had its eyes on medical expenses. Those are so cool. ?

One of my “someday, when I have money/space for this” projects is to 3D print a 1:3 replica Scout II for funsies. It will be huge. When I was little, I wanted a little Scout for my dolls to drive around in and was very sad that one didn’t exist.

New 1/18 release - still expensive, but more affordable than the 1/10:

    Oooh, nice find.

I've actually got a 1/18 scale panda hobby crawler. They're really quite fun, and easy to pack around. They are a bit small for using outdoors, but for inside the house, they rock (heh). I got it during Covid when we couldn't go out as much, and I brought a bunch of river rock inside that the kids and I could crawl over.

The body is in shambles at the moment. I wonder if I could replace it with this body?

It might take some finagling, but where there’s a will there’s a way, right? I’ve got a couple of crawler projects with a similar situation that I’m trying to make work. I have to watch myself with these things though, I may be prone to becoming a bit obsessed with tiny trucks. ?

This Scout II body looks especially good from what I’ve seen in pictures so far. Wish I had a 1/18 to put it on. I’m resisting ordering one so far…must keep strong…

I like this! I didn’t like that their page forced me to accept cookies and tracking so I could see it, but I like it. For me, a nerd who enjoys a crazy amount of detail, I basically would want to plunk a scaled-up version of the Ertl model kit that’s been floating around for years on this frame. I’d like a little bit more body detail than what this has and if I wanted to get really wild, maybe mess with an microcontroller for super special effects. ? That said, I have no restraint and will probably buy one of these anyhow.

It's like my family knows me. My daughter got me the Scout II metal sign for Christmas. The son got me the hoody and mugs. And the wife listened to some heavy suggestions to get the new 1/18 scale Scout II. P.S. it is a crawling little SOB!

? Hopefully they kick out a new Scout 1/18 scale ?

Merry Christmas to all of you!?

Congrats! It looks stellar, and 1/18 is great for crawling around the house.

In a similar vein, I ended up receiving a Redcat Racing gen8 v2 (the green 1/10th scale one) for Christmas :).

It’s my first 1/10 scale crawler, and my kids can’t stop commenting on how “huge” it is. I didn’t get to use it much today, but hope to sometime soon.

I’ll have to snap a photo of it by the tree for everyone.

And Jamie, that means I’m game for testing any potential new Scout Traveler models/bodies, in case you’re looking for a beta tester :D.

Definitely add a photo if you get a chance, would love to see it! 1/10 is a very fun scale for sure.

I think traxxas need a call, maybe a new version of a TRX4 body? Start with Scout Traveler and then make a Scout Terra.

TRX4 is probably the best platform for it but they aren’t cheap, I think the best option would be to do a Team Associated Enduro Trail.

I’d love to see a Traxxas TRX4 with the new Traveler and Terra bodies. The platform is solid and their clipless feature is great.
