Scout Traveler: Running Boards

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Please offer running boards on the Traveler if your cabin entry height is too high off the ground . For example, my spouse in 5 feet 2 inches tall. An on-road wheel and tire package should not be more than 18 or 20 inches of cabin entry heigh t from ground.

Why are you calling it an Explorer? There are also some threads already on some of your topics in case you want to see what all has been discussed thus far. Just use the search icon and add a subject or several key words and that will help you learn what’s been discussed and especially if Jamie has responded to any of your thoughts so you know if it’s confirmed by Scout. Keep enjoying the forum

Ford does running boards on some vehicles - I really hate how they look. Might has auto deploy steps that at least disappear when they are not down. Have learned how to get into a Jeep with a 4" lift without much issue - but would not turn down rock sliders.

I’m with you, I do not like how running boards look. I want rock sliders and a good A pillar grab handle. I’m planning on 33s at this point, I should have no problem.

Okay, I went and visited my daughter in California on vacation. I had multiple days being driven around in her 4Runner. I made it a point to use the running boards. I typically don’t. I just climb in. I may not like how they look but they sure are convenient.

I would add running boards to my Traveler. I like having them on my current and previous SUVs. They come in handy for my 4'11" wife, accessing the roof cargo box, reducing road muck debris strikes on the sides, and washing/drying the roof area. Looks like the Scout Traveler will have way higher ground clearance and be around 9 inches taller than my current SUV.

I've got rock sliders on my Toyota, but there were optional heavy-duty, bolt-on steps available, so I installed one on the passenger side for my wife after she got pregnant. With some anti-seize, it's pretty easy to remove if I'm off-road, otherwise it really hangs up on stuff. I suspect this will be one of the areas that Scout's big accessory shop will really shine. Everybody knows the aftermarket for Jeep, Toyota, Bronco, etc stuff is huge, so why not undercut them from the factory?

I think that is their plan (with the accessories building)... Kit-out your Scout directly from the factory post production.
