Scout delayed??

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Thanks, I missed that response yesterday-great analogy by the way. It's great to see an automobile digital publisher not taking incorrect information and running with it, instead getting information straight from a credible source.
If only they all would do it we could avoid the “sky is falling” scenarios

Yes it’s why I came here to ask. I knew Jamie and or you all would know. There’s so much misinformation it’s why I was asking. :)

It's all good. Duplicate posts are common, particularly when people are scanning topic titles to see if something has been posted.

As pointed out, everything is moving forward and when/if we have anything to announce, we will always post it here ASAP.

Not everyone reads every thread. There’s an increasing amount of traffic, so it’s getting harder to keep up to date, and one doesn’t always think of using the search bar if they’re posting rather than looking for info.
This comment just gave me a thought. Yes, we have the search function, but it really could use some improvements. I am not an expert on forum websites, but it seems there could be a "plug-in" to add some more defined search features and wildcard searches. It can be a bit confusing and I have been here since the beginning.

Agreed. There are times where I know what I’m looking for but I can’t remember exactly what the title of the thread is. Maybe a way to search a topic and it shows the topic and then others that are closely related.

Some more information from here:
The reason for the impending delay: In addition to the development of the hybrid drive with a so-called range extender (REEV), the software is also taking longer than usual, as is so often the case within the Volkswagen Group. Because the software alliance with the US start-up Rivian has not yet delivered what Scout needs, Volkswagen’s own, itself crisis-ridden, development unit Cariad has to step in.

Not sure what's legit and what's not. Talking about cost overruns at the plant is BS since they added a lot more to the plant than the original scope provided for, so I take the rest of these articles with a grain of salt.

That Autopian I thought was just AI written.

Jamie gave us an answer yesterday and I’m sticking with that.

It's the thing thats been turning me away for the GM EV SUVs. I want my frunk
Frunk is a huge appeal for me.

Bike rack makes getting into the cargo area in an SUV harder/more annoying. Having the helmets/pads/etc in the frunk, would be great. Especially if it had airflow/could keep it from smelling like something died in there , then I'd feel better about keeping the gear back in there "all the time".

Scout Motors says new vehicles will be ready in 2027, firing back at delay reports

Of course they are because nothing had changed. And this article quoted Jamie again. It’s nice that we all get to hear from SM first.

I still think in the welcome portion it could be noted to use the search and show the icon. People get excited when new-I remember we used to be. But I also think telling people would give them a better experience so they know how to find things.

The search sorta does that already. And I like that you can do it by author if you recall who posted it it can help pin down partial recollections

Agreed, but it gave more information/excuses about the delay than other articles I'd seen. While I don't much care if there's a delay, I'm mostly curious if there are issues with the software integration with the Harvester and how much the much-maligned (rightfully so) Cariad is involved in mucking it up. Based on their crappy track record, I'm not sure I want them as the middle man between Rivian and Scout.

On the contrary, I have heard that the Rivian software works remarkably well with Harvester. For what it is worth. ;)

Maybe I'm missing something but I don't know what you'd gain from involving Cariad aside from "institutional experience" which may not be wanted or needed.

Replying to myself but I found this article from October of last year: https://www.electrive.com/2025/10/0...-as-coordinator-of-rivian-and-xpeng-software/

Relevant:

Cariad will continue to exist and will be responsible for ‘legacy issues’, i.e. the maintenance and updating of VW’s existing software platforms. The demoted software wing of the German carmaking giant will also integrate the platforms developed by Rivian into VW’s numerous brands. In addition, Cariad will also be responsible for certain core issues such as autonomous driving, infotainment systems and cloud computing services.

So its not as much a "Cariad has to step in!" and more of a "Cariad was demoted from the development cycle and will be doing integration."

To further the point:

Meanwhile, the joint venture between Volkswagen and Rivian in California has already grown from 900 employees at its inception to 1,300, and an office is soon to be opened in Berlin.
