Referral Program

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

A referral program is likely to serve as a mechanism for grassroots advertising, leveraging existing customer relationships to foster organic promotion of the product or service. Furthermore, such a program can provide an incentive for the referred individual, as they may receive a discount upon making a purchase. This dual approach not only enhances customer engagement but also cultivates a sense of community among consumers, ultimately driving both brand loyalty and increased sales volume.

Will there be a referral program?

A referral/rewards program would be awesome. Please don't let it be just about Youtubers and Social Media elites benefitting while the rest of us never see any benefit. That's pretty much what the Tesla and Rivian rewards program is.

I'm already working on referring my employer.

I work for a solar installation company with almost 500 employees serving 3 states in the Northeast (Maine, NH, MA). The company has a goal of fully electrifying their fleet of vehicles by 2030.

In a conversation with the fleet manager for the NH and MA branches recently, I mentioned that I like old cars and that I had a Scout. He said his friend's dad had a Scout when he was younger. I sent him a link to the Scout Motors website and only half jokingly suggested that the company should order Scouts for their fleet, since they fit in nicely with the goal of electrifying the fleet. I offered to take the first one and be the guinea pig to do QC testing with it.

He responded "VERY COOL!" and then said he was going to order a Traveler for himself and asked me which one I want. I think he was half joking as well, but I won't say no if he delivers one to me in 2027.

I’ve tried talking them up to my friends, but their complaint is that they’re too big for city living. They’re not wrong. I have my own parking space and should just be able to fit this monster in it, but I’d also not be totally against waiting for a slightly smaller Scout model more suited for city dwellers. ? They think they’re cool, though. They’re just not the kinds of people who buy trucks or SUVs and/or have fond memories of Scouts from bygone days. What I mean to say is MY FRIENDS STINK. Right under the bus with them. No sales potential.

I’m always quick to say “free’s for me” but I don’t agree with referrals and free stuff. At what point do people just make it a money maker for themselves and dilute the intent of the Scout community. Working for builders people used to ask or hey if you build mine and discount me I’ll have my parents build too! Always a line of BS. We always said when they build and move in we’ll come back and throw in some trim or tile or something similar. Only ever happened once in 8 years.
I think telling people about the vehicle in a positive manner is just an ambassador kind of mentality. Shouldn’t need to be rewarded on top of it. Just my thoughts

I get that sentiment 100%.

I think the difference with the example I used is that there isn't a discount on the truck. Also, with direct sales, credible/honest owners are the tip of the spear for building trust in a new brand. Here's an article I found on the program they implemented: https://electrek.co/2024/08/29/rivian-announces-rivian-rewards-a-referral-program-for-rivian-owners/
FWIW, I'm not saying that this is what Scout should do, but I do think word of mouth referrals will be important at launch once the first deliveries start rolling!

It would be interesting to know how many that have purchased and used the referral program from Rivian or others, would have bought anyway.

I think free charging on the Tesla SC network would be a great, low cost incentive. It also tends to be over valued as a reward. 3 months for the referrer and 1 month for the buyer. Used in only one contiguous period you want within 2 years. Tesla should already have a good idea of how to price this. Non-transferable and of course tied to your VIN only.

One thing I hate about referral programs is that people on forums then advertise in their tagline, etc. It's an eyesore. Though you can always block, I suppose.

Another obvious rip-off for a name: Jamboree Program.

I’m also looking forward to some smaller models, though if traveler is particularly comfy I’d be flexible.

It seems that offering free charging has had a lot of unintended negative consequences in terms of access to charging. Specifically people taking up space at chargers and charging to 100% (which takes a long time) when they have charging at home, but since it’s free they sit at public chargers, which are still a scarce resource.

Heck I would even take free swag for active forum users.

This, absolutely. And the Tesla program was erratic, to say the least, though my ferrets are etched in glass floating around in space, lol. Maybe something modest like a UMC for the referred person and a factory tour/special Tshirt for referee…something that’s meaningful but not particularly slewed to a social media person and doesn’t mess with road to profitability.
