Offer a Simple Base Model

Other people have probably posted something similar but I'll do it again because I think it's important. Please offer a very utilitarian entry level but fully capable harvester edition for both models of the new Scout. I have a deposit on the Traveler Harvester. I am not annoyed by opening my own tailgate or front trunk. Honestly, the fewer mechanical amenities the better -- that stuff is just destined to break down under heavy use anyway. Ditch all the leather and specialty interior trim for the base. Anyone who truly plans to use this for outdoor or utility purposes knows that leather nicks and scratches against belt buckles and other gear. Nothing is more irritating than turning the steering wheel and feeling a five-year old nick in the leather wrapped wheel. Keep it simple and rugged. Heck! While I know this is totally unlikely, I would even prefer crank windows!

I like what I'm seeing with the prototypes you've been displaying around. I love the matte white color! Additional matte colors would be cool. What I don't like is how I'm seeing a lot of emphasis on leather this and leather that and fancy, quirky interior details -- Details that will drive a true user of this vehicle insane as they try to keep them pristine. Yes, many buyers will want all the luxuries offered by a downtown show vehicle that never sees any real outdoorsy use. A lot of us, though, will be using this vehicle for real adventures and we don't want to worry about mud on the carpeting, tears in expensive seat fabrics or leathers, etc. Remember, in the end, you're building a sport UTILITY vehicle. Want to stay true to the original Scout concept and brand? Make an entry model that can truly call itself an off-road utility vehicle.

I always say it and I’ll say it again, I hope everyone gets what they want.

I am not ashamed to admit my vehicles are pavement princesses, but living in Illinois that pavement is covered with snow and ice quite often. I completely agree with no carpet. I do not like it at all. I test drive the Ineos Grenadier a couple times and I love their utilitarian floor. Ineos is a chemical company and it’s one of their products. Something like that would be great in the Scout. You could just wipe it down. I would much prefer that over carpet.

While I respect your desire and recall the simplicity of my scout when I was 17. I don’t see this happening initially but maybe after a year or so. At $60K the base level expectation will be well beyond a basic finish. It’s also been noted on other threads (use search button and try keyword ‘base model’ that a manual window actually costs equal to or more than an auto window. Slate has chose to go the path of bare bones but to date Scout is showing what appears to be mainstream expectations and needs to focus on the majority buyer approach.

Wipe it down…. I wish the scouts had scuppers so I could just hose it out like my boat!

And the old ones should have had steel that would have allowed that rather than rusting through to daylight but exhaust fumes were always part of their charm
