How would you build your Scout?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Yeah, see @R1TVT's post immediately above. Tall, wide tires will kill range. Having skinnier, shorter tires will be better for range. Less knobby tires will be better for range. Lower ride height will be better for range. My guess from other (ICE) vehicles is that 35s will likely net you 20-25% less range.

I usually have a second set of more "capable" wheels and tires that I put on for specific use. Winter, off-roading, etc. I usually run with the long-range wheels & tires until I have a use for the shorter range ones.

If you don't have the space, most tire shops will store your tires for free if you pay to have them mounted. You don't need two sets of wheels.

This is a great video about Pizza Cutters.

Kenda released a 35X10.50R17 R/T recently. A few friends run them and love them.

They will also sing to you so loudly. You'll notice road noise a lot more because there's no engine noise (unless you get the Harvester). The total noise volume will be lower, but new noises will dominate.
I think tire tread will have more impact that size. The 35’s on my TRX are considerably quieter than the 31” tires on my wife’s Colorado ZR2.

In fact, the stock 35 Goodyear Territory Wrangler was considerably louder than the General Grabber A/Tx I put on a few thousand miles ago.

For noise, yes, you’re right, tread has the biggest impact. The 35s seen on the Scout concepts will be loud. I’ll stick with less aggressive tread for quieter travel.

It would be really nice if in addition to pictures when we go to place our order we also got sound recordings. Tires. Roof rack. Etc.
That’s an interesting idea. I definitely want the roof rack but want to drive one to hear the sound. We drove the Lexus GX550 and the rack on there tester looked awesome but was crazy loud. (To the point the dealer said they were pulling it off as it was turning buyers off). I hope that isn’t the case with the scouts. Especially knowing I want the cabana too

I think Scout should let us sign up for test drives before we are invited to complete our builds and let a few of us ride along in Scouts in various trims and packages.

It would make it a LOT easier to know what we want. But we will probably just have to wait for them to do that with vloggers and auto review channels and we will depend on their feedback before making our selections.

Honestly that’s why you see Wranglers with the brackets for a light bar and no bar installed. Whistles. I was going to get one but it takes me forever to research and once I found that out that’s why I switched to A pillar lights.

BFGs tend to be pretty quiet. The K03 displayed on the concept rollers are quieter than the K02 they replaced.

I will honestly be surprised if they are significantly louder than highway tires.

I guess it’s a matter of preference. I didn’t like the volume or the way the KO3s sounded on my Tacoma.
That is totally fair.

When I think of loud tires I am thinking about Super Swampers, Nitto Mud Terrains, Trepadors, Mickey Thompson Baja Claws, etc.

You cant turn the radio up enough when you’re road tripping with those 😂

Hopefully they will have adequate sound deadening in there regardless of road noise. Toyotas can be tin cans since they skimp on that compared to their Lexus offroad vehicles.

Agreed. And my Lightning has a lot more noise management than any previous vehicle I’ve owned.

Looking to mild off-roading
