Future Proof Remote Connectivity

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

While there’s been much talk about the satellite connectivity previewed this week. There should be some though put to the cellular modems installed in modern vehicles… this subject has been touched on briefly in the thread discussing WiFi upgrade ability but that has more to to with in cabin data connectivity.

I’d like to see Scout make the cellular modems be an easy to swap piece. Having the modem be a swappable unit will help when we sunset 5G and move to 6G in the near future. Would hate to be left with no good solution to remotely connect to the vehicle via app, like was seen with some manufacturers with the sunsetting of 3G modems.

I want to second this and specifically add, allow the user to have the vehicle connect to the internet in whatever way they want! If I want to use a different cellular provider for having the vehicle connect, allow me to change a sim card or have a different esim. If I want to connect it to a Wi-Fi connection even driving down the road, allow me to do that. If I want to control that connectivity, allow it. Don't pinhole the connectivity of the vehicle to only the single phone provider that Scout wants to use.

I will also add, I know that there was the announced satellite connection announcement, it would be great if you could still have the vehicle work on 2 different connections at the same time, like 5g and the satellite connection or Wi-Fi and satellite etc. Allow the user options that truly connect us when we want to be connected even in the most remote places.

This. I was crushed when 3G was sunset and I lost a number of features I regularly used in my '17 Jeep WK2, and I typically keep my cars for 10+ years, so I will own the Grand Cherokee for more time without those features than I did with them. I hope that the Scout
Traveler which I would also intend to own for 10+ years will be future proof in this sense.

I fully support being upgradeable in this regard, but I'd also like the connection to be physically defeatable. My privacy and personal information is more important to me than having the vehicle connected to anything, and while Scout has touted privacy and not selling our information in the past, I do NOT want a vehicle that can be disabled remotely by a nefarious group/country.
