Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Norway is such an outlier though. It's a country with less than 6 million people, but a sovereign wealth fund of over $2 trillion dollars! They have offered generous EV incentives and have a zero emissions mandate. It's an impressive feat, but not easy to duplicate.

But they also proven it can be done and even works through their brutal winters which is a testament for positive change

Yet despite Chinas ability to mass produce affordable EVs, EREV sales are exploding there.

It's interesting how different markets behave.
China has a similar geographic size issue like the US where people need to drive long distances and the infrastructure is still young. So EREV for now makes sense for some people.

Some will depend on the size of the generator and the load on the vehicle. If Scout goes with a small generator, it will probably not be doing much to charge the vehicle, and will likely only be slowing the discharge if you are towing a load. If you are running at a deficit due to load - adding more fuel will not help the range much. Scout has published the range with a full tank and full charge - they have not said much about what happens with a full tank and a empty battery.

Under normal use it will run out of fuel first before running out of battery. So you can gas and go. For many smaller towing needs (boats, flatbed race car trailer, overland tent trailer) the Terra Harvester may be fine for your use. You might have to drive slower in some conditions to conserve energy. But if you need to haul heavy loads, large campers and more you should buy a medium or heavy duty truck. Most half ton EV trucks just aren’t there yet for long distance big hauls and therefore aren’t the best tool for the job. We will get there as technology improves.

Same. Not that I want one but I want to see how far over the $45 starting price they go. How many trims at launch, etc etc.
It sounds like the first models will be a Launch Edition and the $45k model wont launch until 6-12 months after initial launch of the R2.

Most likely Tri Motor variants with higher trims.

Sucks for early adopters though because Rivian will not have their new in house control module available until some time in 2027, so the first models will not be capable of hands off eyes off driving.

This has been my thought all along. If you are doing lots of heavy hauling, the Scout may not be for you. Go with Godzilla, or some flavor of Diesel. No need to be upset.

What about Traveler? My biggest towing needs would be this

hauling either one of these

Trailer isn't particularly heavy nor these vehicles so I'm hoping it shouldn't be a problem?

Damn those are sweet. Porsche will cut through the wind rather nicely. The bus might be more of an aerodynamic drag on things. Let's see where the final numbers come out for Traveler. I'm sure there will also be a whole lot of YouTube video tests trying to push the limits right away.
Think my traveler will be able to haul my 76' f150 standard cab long bed?

Yeah the Porsche is probably one of the easiest vehicles you could tow given it's like 2K lbs, smaller than a mini cooper, and very aerodynamic. The Bus is ~2400lbs and is shaped like, well, a Bus so yeah higher drag. According to U-Haul those auto hauler trailers are 2200lbs empty so I'm thinking 5K minimum should do it. I checked and U-Haul allows me to tow the Bus using an R1S w/5K lbs hitch system rating selected so at least that seems okay, although I would imagine Scout is shooting for that 7,700 number which would be even better.
