Drivers Seating

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Ive seen suggestions regarding bench seats, but I'm hoping that Scout also sets the mark for drivers side "Hip Room" (as per SAE J1100) in a captain's chair configuration. Any thing definite about the interior dimensions for Traveler? Sure hope we can at least as well as a full size truck. Leg splay is my concern, and a deal breaker.

According to Grok....

Welcome to the community! We don’t have any specifics as to interior dimensions just yet.

I have been fortunate enough to sit in the seats, front buckets and back of the Traveler. I was very happy with the front seat, with the caveat that they are still a concept.

If you use the search function and search my name CYURE in the title you will find the 4 threads from when we have seen the concepts in person.

Our trip to South Carolina is where I had the most seat time.

Welcome again!

Here’s a link to our SC thread.

Welcome to the community. Having sat in the front with the console and being 5’-10/11” the leg width was great. It’s a wide interior so lots of splay space

I don’t know, my man. I don’t know how this is going to play out.

For whatever it’s worth, I spent about 15 years getting gaslit pretty hard about my weight gain as being something brought about as a result of me being a lazy slob who ate too much and exercised too little, not as a result of me taking extremely high dosages of metylprednisolone without being told to be mindful of how much sugar I took in on those days because it was going to make my insulin go effing bananas. I won’t go into all of it because it’s long and personal and frankly I only carried that weight for a short part of my life, not all of it.

If you’ve never carried extra weight, I think it’s hard to really appreciate the kind of bullshit that a person goes through in their every day life. It seems like it’s full of disappointment. There are people around who you’re supposed to go to for help and then these people are so disgusted by the sight of you that they cannot and will not be troubled to accommodate you.

It would be kind of cool if extra-large chairs were a made-to-order option. Make it an extra charge if you have to, but Jesus H. Christ, I wish someone would just please show some basic-ass humanity and address that people are in fact in need of big chairs.

Seriously, I’m asking what large folks are supposed to do in their present in order to ever go somewhere? Cut off a leg? Snip off flesh so they fit in spaces that aren’t made to accommodate them? What they hell do they do? Having seen a very large young woman with cancer struggle to fit into a car at young adult cancer camp a few years ago, it just sucked to not have a way to ease a fellow human being’s pain.

It seems like acknowledging that people come in every shape and size is a failure in the automotive industry. High-end electric seats are adjustable in every way except the leg and side bolsters in my experience. Personally, I prefer a tighter fitting seat to combat fatigue and slouching on rough roads/trails and long road trips. My old f250 was built for big bodies, but my newer f150 is a little better and the in-laws’ jk wrangler is just about right. All that aside, it doesn’t seem like a feat of engineering to make a seat with adjustable bolsters for all shapes and sizes.

I’d go as far as to say it’s been a failure in just about every industry, but I’m glad that Scout is offering bench seats. That is pretty awesome. I don’t think it’s going to be a perfect solution because that’s not a seat that you can slide forward/back (I assume?) to adjust like you could with a captain’s chair (I also assume?) to make adjustments as needed. Still, it’s a start. People don’t deserve to feel crappy for occupying space. There’s so much you can do with existing designs and space and I get that there are physical limitations that you straight-up can’t exceed, but if something can be done, that is cool. Maybe there’s an aftermarket answer to this.

I have clearly misinterpreted the intent of the post and was wondering if the bench seat would be best for the given application (while parked) at a dark overlook (not realizing that the use-case involved actual driving of the vehicle), so my definition & interpretation of the splaying of the leg was obviously in the gutter. I may need to buffer up on my lingo.

Until you had made the previous comment I didn’t even think of it that way but I busted out laughing when I read that-keep posting the lingo. We say way more offensive things on here some days

Oh, indeed. Anticipating that some of my genitalia-related comments will one day get me nominated for a Nobel Prize in Literature.

I LOVE the adjustable bolsters in my Supra. Crank them wide for a comfortable roomy fit, or crank them down to the point of immobility and a few cracked ribs. If Toyota mastered the tech 40+ years ago, I suspect somebody else could be inspired by the idea. Admittedly, the car was designed for smaller individuals back then, but the tech isn't new.

Driving a truck is a lot different than driving a miniature race car though. When I had a bench in my Silverado, I feel like it never left me wanting for bolsters and some sort of "racaro racing seat" - unless I was behaving poorly and driving too fast around corners (for a truck).
And if you do that, your dog will let you know.

Another reason why bench seats and trucks are so great.

A bench seat in the Scout will "feel" super big, and if you start driving too fast without your dog, you can always flip down the console and rebound off that when you go too hot into a corner.

At 6’8” every vehicle is a concern. You won’t find a Toyota Corolla sized vehicle in my driveway. Besides leg room, it also messes with how my shoulders fit because the seat is always all the way back and some vehicles I end up agains the cab of the vehicle.

Flying isn’t fun either (why is it the guy that’s 5’3” is always in the emergency exit row?).

I often wonder what it would be like to be 6’3”

So do I-but from the shorter side of that statement 🤣

Seeing the challenges of my coworkers at 6'-6" and 6'-8", I'll happily take being short any day of the week. I fit in all vehicle seats and most carry-on storage bins. :ROFLMAO:

I have a buddy who is 6'7" and I don't envy him. Everything looks uncomfortable to get in and out of.

I'm 6'3" and can tell you it's still not great. It's one of the reasons I have driven trucks and why I'm going with the Traveler. There's no way I can see folding myself into a sedan. Flying is terrible still (though I can't imagine what it's like for you). I'll fly economy around the US, but my knees are in the back of the seat in front of me. I have to upgrade internationally otherwise my legs go numb because I really can't move them.

I knew there had to be some vehicles out there that are adjustable! Seems like such an obvious thing to have.

I consider myself lucky to be 6’ tall and can fit in any car, but my mom is 5’2” and my dad is 6’4”, so I’ve seen the frustration from both ends of the spectrum.
