  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

    Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

For me that 4” or 6” or whatever that sits above the cab is enough for me to want a different design.

But I’m too much of a technical perfectionist. I saw someone on the another forum who had a similar camper (might have been a lift-up like the OVRLND campers). They put a shroud around the cabover part to help redirect the wind and limit the vacuum created in the various nooks and crannies. They seemed to have made up some of the reduction in efficiency. Apologies, that was with a different vehicle. The guy I was thinking of was getting 2 miles/kWh with an OVRLND on a Lightning.

What I think would work really well for EV pickups would be a camper like the OVRLNDs but that doesn’t have the cabover part. When closed, the top sits below the cab. When you deploy it, it lifts up, and maybe even flips after lifting—I’m sure some mechanical engineer with some time can figure that geometry out. If I didn’t have 1732 projects going already, I’d probably take a look.

I was more curious about what you thought about how they build them since youre an engineering wizard, but I see what you are getting at with the same roofline and efficiency.

This isnt exactly the overall concept you want, but pretty cool none the less.

AT Overland makes a Habitat that flips over towards the rear. There is still a cabover section but thats also a short bed Taco. If you have a 6.5ft bed you could probably get away with something similar being under the roofline.

Yeah, AT makes a great camper too.

As far as how they build them: I do think the last ten, fifteen years have shown some real brilliant engineering wizards out there with popups, fold outs, etc. I’m seriously impressed even if they don’t work perfectly for me.
