  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

I’m hoping I can get advanced features without being forced to get big wheels, ie I hope not too many things are tied to specific trim levels.

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

On the one hand, it takes time to ramp up, I’m sure they won’t be producing that many vehicles in their first year. On the other hand, I suspect a fair number of reservation holders won’t convert to actual sales/leases. Splitting the difference, I’m guessing most folks that have reservations...

Do You Want Your Scout To Have A Hands-Free Driving System?

No, nothing to do with sensors, everything to do with what is required of the driver. There is a specific definition of L2, meaning that it can include the car controlling the brakes/accelerator and the steering, but the key thing is that the driver is fully responsible and has to be constantly...

Level 2+ is level 2, they’re saying the same thing.

One feature that made you pull the the trigger on a reservation….

Removing steering wheel would require level 5, or very limited use cases, and no one really has software tech for that yet. There was a lot of optimism about the progress of automation tech 10 years ago, but I don’t think folks realized that the last 10% capabilities would take 100x the effort...

    Service Center

They’ve previously said that 80% of repairs would not require them to do it. I don’t remember the exact wording, but my takeaway was that the information, skillset and equipment would be widely available. To me this means you could take it to your local mechanic or do it yourself without...

Do You Want Your Scout To Have A Hands-Free Driving System?

I responded in the other thread, but to clarify, as I understand it, that’s not what level 2 means. It has a specific definition by the SAE, and it doesn’t define a list of features, rather it’s about who’s in control. I don’t believe there is a definition of 2+, that’s just informal short...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

I would not read too much into level 2 vs 2+. Level 2 is technically defined and covers a broad range of possibilities. The key thing is that the driver is always responsible for continually monitoring and ready to take over instantly. 2+ is just an informal way of saying “really advanced...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

That’s kinda my point. If the tech were such that I felt comfortable napping while it drove, or letting it drive around and park itself or pick me up when I go on a long one way hike or bike ride, then it would be interesting. Even waymo, probably the most advanced, is limited to certain areas...

Yes, but I wouldn’t mind having a car that dropped me off at a restaurant or concert venue, then drove away and parked itself. Or one that let me take a nap on a long road trip.

Traveler vs. Terra - Targeted Technical Questions

I’m curious about this. As I understand things, they should be pretty much the same from the rear seats forward, and Terra is longer, with a longer frame and all, so wouldn’t it likely be heavier than traveler?

    Off-topic stuff…

I’m not a coffee drinker, but I’m told their plain coffee is only so so, but in terms of sugar, they make Starbucks look like plain old coffee like we had 50 years ago. In my experience, their servers are extremely pleasant, the have about a zillion flavor combinations that can be had in the...

We ran into/over things (and pets and people ). The camera makes visible things you just can’t see from the driver seat, no matter how you turn your head and body.
